He was seven years old when his mum called him in from a football game to watch Run DMC on telly.

That was it. Seven years before he even owned a set of decks, but the seed was already in the ground.

What came after includes a world title, a scratch technique he invented himself, a turntable built to play full musical scales, and a live theatre show at the Edinburgh Fringe where he puppeteered projected characters in real time.

Right now he’s learning the bongos. Beginner’s mind, reinvention, the refusal to sit still once you’ve arrived somewhere. It’s exactly the territory Issue Zero was built to explore.

Magazine spread cover for “DJ Woody” in bold yellow graffiti-style lettering, featuring a black and white portrait of a young man in a flat cap over a collage of DJ performance photos. Text reads “The Beginner’s Mind” and the pull quote “There’s an element of stubbornness” with the byline “DJ Woody, 2x World Champ.” taken in London, United Kingdom by @limitsaf

You spend years building toward some invisible finish line. School, then a job, then a version of stability everyone applauds. You cross it and wait for the feeling that's supposed to come with crossing it. It doesn't come. Instead there's this quiet, nagging sense that the story isn't over, that the version of you sitting still isn't the whole picture. People will tell you that's restlessness. It isn't. It's instinct. The same instinct that got you here in the first place, the one that doesn't know how to stop asking what's next. You don't owe anyone a finished self. You don't owe the world a tidy ending at thirty, or forty, or any age they've decided things should slow down. Change direction. Pick something up you dropped years ago. Start something you've got no business starting. The truth is nobody is done. Not the people who look like they've got it all figured out, not the people still working it out in public, not you. You're not done yet. You were never supposed to be. by @limitsaf

Twenty-five years. Twenty-one jump spots destroyed. One that survived.

Jimmy built his first jump at seven, after watching a man doing trails on Blue Peter. He pushed some dirt against some sticks and jumped over it. He never really stopped.

Five minutes from the M25, past a hand-forged gate, there's a set of trails with no name and no signpost. Just coordinates, if you know who to ask. Hundreds of jumps hand-shaped from clay.

The rule is simple. No dig, no ride. You put in the winter sessions before you're allowed to drop in. Reputation gets you nothing here. Calluses do.

"I put piles of dirt in front of human beings."

This is Still Digging, one of the stories our first Zine. Issue 00 drops soon.

As part of the launch we let the next first deck loose on the crowd. Some thought provoking responses.

Start your next first
60 analog prompt cards for curious minds and changing direction.
Each card gives you a small side quest — something to try, make, notice, revisit or begin. Use them when you feel flat, stuck, bored, restless or ready for something new.
Not self-help.
Not homework.
A deck of small provocations for people still becoming.
Pull a card.
Do the thing.
Keep moving.
