_ The project I would like to introduce is the spatial design for the special exhibition *Chima (Korean Skirt): Within the Folds*, organized by Arumjigi. On the first floor, the Onjium Clothing Studio presented a collection of traditional Korean skirts—researched, historically verified, and meticulously recreated. To showcase these skirts from various eras, the space was designed around the concept of a Möbius strip; partitions crafted from *hanji* (traditional Korean paper) create a natural flow of movement while defining the environment. On the second floor, the design focuses on ”white shadows“—a concept where the surrounding negative space is layered to provide a setting for the recreated embroidered skirts and contemporary works. I believe that a space can be truly excellent simply by embracing the objects within it, even when its own presence remains subtle or unseen.

_On the first floor, we are exhibiting skirts from various historical periods—pieces researched and recreated by the Onjium Clothing Studio. Since each work carries a distinct historical context and theme, we wanted to ensure that while every piece stands as an independent work, they are all connected by a natural flow of movement.

_ As you follow the winding path, you naturally encounter the exhibited works. The walls, which curve like a Möbius strip, connect the spaces—taking on various forms—while at times creating distinct, independent areas. Occasionally, they also serve as wall panels that provide context and information for the exhibition.

_ We designed a series of structures to create ”negative space“ around the artworks. While these structures may appear simple, they possess a nuanced complexity; they serve to guide the viewer toward the works while simultaneously defining distinct, independent spaces. The *hanji* (traditional Korean paper) and the structural elements are joined using tiny brass nails—a detail that remains hidden from view, yet reflects the great care invested in the process. We believe that even elements that are not immediately visible can play a vital role in shaping the energy of a space.

_Upon reaching the second floor, you are greeted by a space that offers shelter from the sun and rain—a perfect spot to sit and take in the atmosphere, framed by the beautiful walls of Gyeongbokgung Palace and the surrounding ginkgo trees. We have created small, lightweight benches using fabrics originally employed by three contemporary designers in their own works. While their light weight allows them to be easily moved around, our hope is that this space remains subtle and unobtrusive, inviting visitors to engage with the exhibited pieces—whether by touching them or sitting on them—to experience their textures firsthand.

_ The second-floor exhibition space, which faces a *hanok* (traditional Korean house), showcases ready-to-wear pieces by contemporary fashion designers. The space is layered with translucent fabric draped across the windows and walls, filtering light and shadow through warm, tactile textures. Rather than focusing on striking forms, the exhibition highlights the interplay between texture and light as they harmonize with the displayed works.

_ The piece in this exhibition that warrants the most time and careful observation is the embroidered skirt. Based on artifacts excavated from a 17th-century tomb, the Onjium Clothing Studio conducted extensive research and collaborated with master artisans—specializing in weaving, embroidery, and needlework—to meticulously reconstruct the garment. The skirt is adorned with a composition of flowers and birds, with every single motif uniquely rendered; no two designs are alike. To allow visitors to fully appreciate these delicate, intricate embroideries, the skirt has been set to rotate slowly.

_ Directly across from the contemporary designers‘ couture exhibition, an embroidered skirt (chima) from the Onjium Clothing Studio is on display. This spatial arrangement, where tradition and modernity literally face each other, signifies that the roots of contemporary Korean culture inherently lie within its tradition.

_ On the second floor of Arumjigi’s hanok, an exhibition showcases couture pieces by three young fashion designers—LEJE, Jaden Cho, and Jiyong Kim—reflecting their unique reinterpretations and deep contemplation of the traditional Korean skirt (chima). To beautifully convey their delicate sensibilities within the traditional architecture, the windowed wall has been draped in a semi-transparent white fabric, creating a serene sense of negative space. We hope that as the original form of the hanok faintly peeks through, it serves as a subtle backdrop that allows visitors to fully appreciate and focus on the intricate beauty of these couture works.

_On the third-floor exhibition hall, you can explore the archives and interviews of the three fashion designers. To ensure the beautiful windows remain unobstructed, three long exhibition tables have been arranged thoughtfully across the room. In this space, the ever-changing vistas outside serve as ”borrowed scenery“ (chakyung), weaving the ephemeral beauty of the seasons directly into the exhibition experience.

_ We are pleased to introduce an exhibition project curated in collaboration with Arumjigi. Through the skilled hands of artisans, this exhibition explores the *chima* (traditional skirt)—revealing both the social norms of the era and the enduring human aspiration for beauty. The showcase features *hanbok* recreations by Onjium, alongside creative fashion interpretations by LEJU, Jaden Cho, and JiyongKim, who offer a contemporary perspective on the garment. We invite you to explore the stories woven into these pieces and kindly ask for your support for the spatial design we have created to house them.

_ We took part in the event celebrating Delarana’s 10th anniversary. Our spatial design was inspired by the beauty of the garments created for this milestone. The delightful shimmer of silky materials, the artisanal charm of tassels, and the unexpected harmony achieved through layering all served as elements that enhanced the beauty of the space.
