Playthings, 2024
Underglaze on ceramic, wood, fabric, ribbon, conduit, and rope
Dimensions variable

Playthings is a quest for the reconstruction of memories and the reclaiming of lost innocence. The installation consists of clay replicas of toys that I owned in childhood, suspended in a blanket-fort enclosure built to provide a place of belonging for the recreated toys.
The work is meant to provide a safe space to connect with lost aspects of oneself’s own identity. It allows the viewer a chance at embracing a moment of contemplation for their own childhoods.

All pictures taken by me.

The emotional stuff of Playthings, 2024

Gosh it’s been over a year since this work was exhibited at the @wignallmuseum and I just can’t believe it. I think it’s taken me so long to post about this experience as I’ve always felt it would officially mark the end of this aspect of my time at Chaffey. Doing the Student Invitational was such a big goal for me and the feeling of being past it is very weird if I am being honest. This project consumed me and really allowed me to get in touch with such a different aspect of my artistic practice, I will be forever changed and forever thankful as an artist. I feel very lucky to have worked with the amazing curators and advisors at The Wig to learn first hand what it takes to create a work for a museum from beginning to end. The people I met because of this work, the conversations I shared, and this experience as a whole are things I will carry with me in my heart for the rest of my professional career. If you came and saw this work in person, my gratitude is eternally yours. If you didn’t that’s okay too, there will be many more showings of my work in the near and distant future. I hope you enjoy these pictures from my process. Thank you to everyone for looking at and seeing my art, I hope doing so brings you comfort. by @linayhadoesart

Some fun from my current Intro to Sculpture course taught by @brodyalbert !!!

1 - Make something big for under 7 dollars. I used wire that I bent into shapes. For this I was sculpting very intuitively using my current feelings the unruliness of the medium guide my movements.

2 - Modular sculpture using popsicle sticks. Admittedly I have to still finish painting this one so the better explanation will also come when I have better pictures after I finish lol

3 - Sculptures made out of scrap wood from our wood shop demos. Learned how to use many things I am very scared of, like a nail gun !! and a table saw!!!

a collection of mistakes!!

this series is came about because of a task from advanced ceramic course with @shunter2367 where he gave us the challenge of making something ugly. I really enjoy the process of trying to salvage the mistakes I make on the wheel.
