***Update on Harrison's Holme nature reserve in Horncastle***

Restoration works got underway this week on the new Harrison's Holme wetland, opposite our Banovallum House grounds on the south side of the A158.

Our CEO Paul Learoyd welcomed key stakeholders to the site yesterday to mark the start of works, joined by Mike Harrison, one of the site's former landowners, Rachel Butler and Sam Valman of East Mercia Rivers Trust (EMRT), who secured the funding and led the restoration plans, and East Lindsey District Councillors William Gray and Fiona Martin. East Lindsey District Council has supported the restoration through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

The site name is a tribute to the Harrison family, long-time owners of the land, and echoes its historic name; in past centuries the whole area was known as 'The Holmes'. EMRT secured funding from Anglian Water to purchase the site, led the design of the restoration plans and brought in UKSPF funding from East Lindsey District Council to deliver them. Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will manage the site for the long term.

Rachel Butler, CEO of East Mercia Rivers Trust, said: "I grew up in Horncastle, so securing this site for the community means a great deal to me personally and the Wildlife Trust are the right people to look after it for years to come."

Councillor William Gray, portfolio holder for Communities at East Lindsey District Council, said: "Councillor Fiona Martin and I have backed this project from the start. It's a real asset for the town, and we hope people will use the viewpoint once it's finished to see the site for themselves."

Paul Learoyd added: "This is a small but significant new wetland for Horncastle. It won't prevent flooding outright, but by lowering the banks, the site will be far better able to soak up floodwater, while creating a brand-new haven for wildlife at the meeting point of two internationally important chalk streams." by @lincswildlifetrust

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust President, Geoff Trinder. Geoff died on Wednesday 9 September 2026 at the age of 85.

Geoff Trinder was a member of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust for over 60 years after first becoming involved in the mid-1970s. He was a founding member and Chair of the Isle of Axholme Area Group, and the volunteer reserve manager for Epworth Turbary nature reserve for 41 years. He was the Chair of the Board of Trustees before becoming President in 2017, a post which he held until his death.

It was as a wildlife photographer that Geoff was perhaps most well-known.
He took early retirement from a 31-year career teaching art in a comprehensive school to devote more time to conservation and photography. He travelled the world in search of wildlife but never lost sight of the experiences close to home. Indeed, many of his photographs were taken in the garden which Geoff and his wife Chris (who passed away in 2025) cared for to encourage wildlife.

To celebrate the Trust’s 60th anniversary in 2008, Geoff produced “Wild Lincolnshire”, a book about Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust reserves, which he wrote and beautifully illustrated with his photographs. Geoff was a popular and engaging speaker at Area Group meetings and photography clubs, and regularly wrote articles for the Trust’s “Lapwings” magazine where he encouraged readers of his articles to broaden their horizons, get out and experience wildlife.

Geoff will be deeply missed by all at the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. Our thoughts are with his family. by @lincswildlifetrust

Tranquil moments just after sunrise at Chapel Point in the Lincolnshire Coastal Country Park last month.

Visiting the coast early in the morning or in the evening can be a wonderful experience - and you often get our wilder spots all to yourself! Please just be aware of parking restrictions (the car parks within Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes and the Coastal Country Park are not managed by the Trust).

Do keep an eye out for our special out of hours events at Gibraltar Point too. They often include a fantastic breakfast or supper on the Visitor Centre cafe! 👇

What a photo - and what a moment for longstanding Trust supporter and regular visitor to Whisby Nature Park, Kevin Ward.

He told us: "We called early on Friday 4th September to Whisby and got such a surprise when we opened the hide windows of Hide 1. There were two bittern together out in the open! After almost 60 years of birdwatching my most memorable moment, and at a local Lincolnshire reserve too."

Thank you so much for sharing, Kevin. by @lincswildlifetrust

On Sunday, our #WilderHumber team were delighted to welcome the Lincoln Conservation Group to our saltmarsh and sand dune plant nursery at Saltfleetby for a volunteer task day.

The group, which has been carrying out practical conservation work in and around Lincoln since 1994, helped us with a range of site and nursery maintenance tasks before finishing the day with seed cleaning, sorting and counting, as well as transplanting some of our young plants into larger plug trays.

These plants will eventually support our saltmarsh and sand dune restoration work through Wilder Humber, our partnership with @orsted and @yorkshirewildlifetrust_ working to restore coastal habitats around the Humber Estuary.

A huge thank you to everyone from Lincoln Conservation Group for all their hard work and enthusiasm!

If you’d like to volunteer at the nursery or get involved with our coastal restoration work, visit our webpage and get in touch: www.lincstrust.org.uk/volunteering-opportunities by @lincswildlifetrust

Yesterday the Wilder Humber team completed our annual late-season sea couch cutting at Horseshoe Point, with all target plots cut and the arisings removed from the marsh. The work forms part of our ongoing couch cutting and monitoring trials, helping inform wider sea couch management.

The work was supported by the wider conservation team, our reserves colleagues and the Lincolnshire National Trust Ranger Team who provided additional capacity equipment and brush-cutter expertise.
