You should have seen Downtown LA today! The people, the fashion, the vibe… all just screamed 80s New York. And I love that. 💙 Wish I got more pics of some of the amazing people and scenes that turned my head but I was making a beeline for my meeting. Anyway, a very cool experience - I’ve always loved DTLA but I’ve never seen it quite like that before! 🤩

Nothing like an apocalypse to make a girl feel loved. THANK YOU to everyone who has reached out to check on me from around the country and around the world. It means a lot. 🥰

I’ve evacuated and am safe. 🙏

Yesterday morning I woke up and saw that in the five hours I’d slept, the evacuation zone had grown from about 15 miles away to about 4 miles away. Opened the window and was met with a massive black cloud covering half the sky. On the other side of my building, thick, low smoke almost at my door. I could smell it and feel it in my lungs.

Despite the dangerous conditions outside, all of that combined with having seen footage and heard accounts from people who got stuck in fires in other parts of LA because they hadn’t left early enough - the fire had moved so quickly and suddenly there was no route out - led me to conclude to go now.

I packed the literal “things you would save in a fire”, which was an experience in itself - certainly illuminates the relative importance of things in an acute way. Also packed food and water in case I got stranded in my car. And weirdly remembered to grab my compression socks in case I could never come back and my next step was to get on a plane.

Just before leaving I checked in on my next door neighbor who, it turned out, was packing up too. Shared our amazement and some tips, wished each other well, and it struck me that when I said goodbye she said, “See you soon! Hopefully!” Good point.

Out on the street it really was apocalyptic. Black or glowing sky, people packing up their cars, sidewalks ripped up by massive downed trees, streetlights out.

There were fires to the north, east and west of me so I had to go south. Amazingly kind as always, my beautiful friends Patrick and Jesse, who live two hours south of LA, had told me, you’re family, our home is your home.

Happy Birthday to my soulmate!! 💕🐈‍⬛💕

We instantly bonded so deeply the magical day we brought her home. She’s in Australia and I miss her so much! But although she runs and hides from almost everyone and slowly comes out tentatively near a few, when I come home, no matter how long I’ve been away, the moment she hears my voice she comes running right to me meowing, then purrs as I pet her. Happy New Year!! 🥳

I hope you have an amazing year, that you and your loved ones are happy and healthy, that you have many magical experiences, and that you make it happen to live the life you want.

Yesterday I got my car washed at the place I always go and it was about four times busier than usual. I asked about it and apparently that happens every New Years Eve.

I think that’s so cute, all of us getting ready together, all cleaned up and orderly, ready for a fresh year. I always love the connection of communal experiences and it prompted me to send out good vibes to everyone for your resolutions and your dreams!

This year I’m taking on a lot - it will be non-stop and intense but I’m excited! Never been a big fan of moderation so of the remaining options, better to be slightly frantic than to sit around staring at the wall.

2025, let’s go!! 🤩

Ok my last Hawaii post for this trip! Random collection of some of our favorite spots and a road trip up the east coast…

• Magical sunset in the water one evening back at our favorite swimming spot, Waimea Bay. 🌊☀️
• Quick video of where Jurassic Park was filmed. This was just the tip of the iceberg from outside Kualoa Ranch. 🦕
• My nephew and I checking out Kailua Beach, including cute beach path and my nephew holding the gate for me. 💖
• My niece suddenly transformed into an ethereal Hawaiian princess. 💖
• Video not of the beach with all the turtles but the place called Turtle Bay. 🐢

Hanauma Bay! Despite my addiction to sunscreen I’m sunburned so my nephew loaned me his rashie - how cute is that? 🥰 Saved me. ☀️ Hanauma Bay is the famous snorkeling spot on southeast Oahu - you have to get tickets but they’re only available two days in advance and sell out in literally 5 minutes. But we got them! Shark’s Cove was actually still our fave snorkeling spot but here was of course amazing for that and just being in the water for ages too! 🌊 I saw all kinds of stunningly beautiful tropical fish and swam with a school of 17 huge fish (I counted) for at least a full minute or so! We just chilled together! 🐠🐠🐠 Oh and there was also a monk seal just chilling on the beach! Only about 1500 left in the world. 🦭💜 We were told to stay out of its path so it didn’t charge us! This post is dedicated to Hawaiian food! Firstly, look at the video of what Hawaiian food trucks are like!! 🤩 A favorite dinner spot of ours with truly some of the best burgers I’ve had in my life! 🍔 Swipe to see a cute little place called Hale’iwa Bowls and one of their bowls of blended pineapple, banana & blue majik spirulina with granola, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi and bee pollen. 🐝 Omg I could eat only this for a year! 😋 Next is kakigori aka Hawaiian shaved ice!! We don’t know how it’s so yummy but it is! After the first place it has quickly became a daily event - we’ll be in the car and I say hey kids if we see a place do you want some shaved ice? “YES!” So we keep a lookout and inevitably drive past some cute little spot on the side of the road - got a couple in the pics. 🍧 Oh and I didn’t get a pic of this but one day at the beach while we were in the water away from our bags a very cute mongoose ate part of our lunch, which is not a problem I’ve faced before in my life. 🏝️ taken in Oahu, Hawaii by @lindapaice

The MO of this trip is Chasing Turtles. The kids saw one one day then snorkeled off into the ocean to try to find it for me again 😄💖 then the next day I swam with two somewhere else! On land or in the ocean, I’ve made so many friends like a 5-year-old on vacation by appearing in front of people asking if they’ve seen any turtles. But this was wild - in my Uber from the airport I was getting Oahu tips from the driver and said, thinking it was super random and unlikely, “My sister-in-law said she wants to go and find sea turtles, do you know where we could do that?” Literally a few minutes later he pointed out the window and said, “There’s some turtles.” 😄🤩 He didn’t know what beach it was so I quickly took a screenshot on Maps and we’ve since gone back to the same beach and it was filled with turtles! Shark’s Cove - best snorkeling spot ever!!! And literally right at the end of our street! The visibility was extraordinary and there were so many stunningly beautiful tropical fish AND… I swam with two sea turtles!!! 🐢🐢 SO beautiful! Just another world under there! 🤩 Actually, you know that feeling when you’ve been ice-skating then you try to walk without your skates and it feels so weird and wrong? That’s how I feel now when I come out of the water - just walking on land in general feels strange! 🧜‍♀️ But I adjust ;) - swipe for the cute little path down to the cove, I‘ve always loved these at any beach 🩵 and where we went hiking in the bush/forest/jungle 🤷‍♀️ from the other end of our street! Love being out in the bush too - the trees, fresh air, sounds, smell… nature is the best! 🍃☀️ taken in Shark's Cove, North Shore, Oahu by @lindapaice
