🍁 October is for some of Al Lindner's favorite species: walleyes and smallmouth bass. The beauty of fall is that walleyes and smallmouth bass can be caught together right on the same spot. Fall turnover pushes fish to shallow structures to feed. Slow-rolling spinner baits and paddle tails are effective methods for targeting these areas during this time.

One of the nicest features of the Xplore units is that they come preloaded with 13,000 lakes, including a lot of major Canadian bodies of water. This has allowed us not to worry about getting certain chips for different trips this season.

" We just wrapped up a really special fall trip to @sunset_country. Dan Quinn from Rapala and I brought our sons along for a few days of fishing, including Muskie Palooza at Eagle Lake Island Lodge.

The muskies made us work for it this year, but that’s fishing; and one of the great things about this part of Northwest Ontario is there’s always another opportunity. Along the way we caught muskies, big smallmouth, walleyes, lake trout and whitefish. Pretty hard to complain about that kind of variety.

It was really awesome having our boys along. Trips like this were a big part of what got us hooked on fishing in the first place.

A big thank you to Eagle Lake Island Lodge and the entire staff for another incredible Muskie Palooza. Hosting a big crew of crazy muskie fishermen is no small task, and they knocked it out of the park. Great food, great accommodations and a staff that works hard to make sure everyone has a good time. It’s a special place with some great people.

Eagle Lake is one of those fisheries every serious angler should experience, and when you combine it with all the other fishing opportunities throughout Sunset Country, it’s pretty tough to beat.

If you’ve ever thought about taking your kids on a fishing trip to Northwest Ontario, do it. The fish are certainly part of it, but years from now, I have a feeling the memories will be what matter most.

🌤 Al Lindner got out on an awesome crappie bite the other day with Kerry and his friend Kurt Compton: "Dark water lake, in 5-7 feet of cabbage. We used a 1/64 ounce VMC Moon Eye jig, a St. Croix Avid panfish rod, and a Daiwa 1000 reel, along with Big Bite Baits panfish plastics. It's fun fishing these shallow, dark water lakes this time of the year. You can always catch some really nice crappies in and around the weed line, and you don't have to worry about mortality rates in water 25 ft or deeper." - Al

As fall crappies push deep, here's a reminder that anglers should only target those deepwater fish for harvest. Pick a shallower, weedy-stained lake like Al Lindner is doing, and the fish have no problem swimming off. Crappies are fun and can provide great action on these bluebird fall days when other species are a little slow.

A well-deserved honor for Brian, who has spent years in the industry guiding and doing everything else in-between. It's been a pleasure working with him over the years, and we were blessed to share this night with him.

It's hard to beat a fishing trip to sunset country, especially if you like chasing shallow, aggressive walleyes. One of Jeremy Smith's favorite activities on the shield lakes is to spend all day structure hunting, pitching jerkbaits. You'll pluck the most aggressive fish off a spot and then move onto the next.
