Columbus State College of Digital Fabrication

The College of Digital Fabrication is envisioned as a pedagogical tool and a contemporary expression of didactic architecture, where the building itself becomes an active part of the learning process. Rather than serving only as a container for education, the project is designed to teach through its materials, structure, and spatial organization. Exposed mass timber framing, visible joints, and legible systems allow students to study how the building is assembled, understand the relationship between parts and whole, and engage directly with the realities of construction and making.

By viewing space through an educational lens, the school can be broken up into four fundamental states - Presentation, Instruction, Fabrication, and Restoration. These four fundamental educational operations organize space; together, these zones create a balanced
environment where making, learning, sharing, and recharging are equally valued. by @lindsay_arch

Blurred Lines

The approach for this mixed-use office building/public gathering space was to
intentionally and clearly designate public and private spaces through visual cues and material qualities. The often vague demonstrations of public space in urban
areas lead to confusion of where pedestrians are welcomed and where they are prohibited. The translucent glass panels (as well as their absence) are meant to clearly define and shape the way the public interacts with the envelope of the building. Private areas (such as the office spaces on the upper floors) and areas that require careful control of light entering spaces (the gallery space on the second floor) are shielded from public scrutiny by a layer of translucent glass in the outer facade.

One of the main challenges addressed by this design was the excessive direct sunlight reaching the office floors. The outer translucent glass panels help resolve this by admitting less light than a typical insulated glazing unit, reducing glare without creating a dim environment. Rather than blocking daylight entirely, the balconies introduce intentional interruptions in the translucent layer, allowing controlled pockets of sunlight to enter. In contrast, the double-height public areas are left without the translucent panels, resulting in bright, open spaces while more private zones remain sheltered. taken in Chicago, Illinois by @lindsay_arch

Thach Aqautics Center

On site, I noticed how sound behaved differently across the landscape — the old excavation formed a natural bowl that softened the street noise. My design builds on that quiet pocket: the solid main volume blocks sound from the street, while a series of ramps and lighter structures shield a calm outdoor pool. Apertures throughout the building play with the idea of revealing or concealing structure, creating moments of surprise. Circulation becomes a continuous loop between the two pools, tying interior and exterior together. The massing also works passively with the sun — warming the pool area in the mornings and shading it in the humid evenings. taken in Auburn University College of Architecture, Design and Construction by @lindsay_arch
