There is no easy way to tell the people that your dad died but here I go. Last Thursday I sat with my dad as he took his last breathes and I studied how much he had changed and aged since I had last seen him.

For much of my life, my dad and I were incredibly close. He was the center of my world and in my eyes, he could do no wrong. He would come coach my basketball team, he would make any meal my heart desired and he would out-sing everyone on any karaoke machine.

Unfortunately, as the years went on my dad battled addiction and he became estranged from our family. I didn’t speak about it much because for a long time I carried his mistakes with my own shame. That distance has been heartbreaking and grief feels complicated when a relationship has had both so much love and so much heartache.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I want to remember, and I’m choosing to remember my dad for the good. His incredibly quick-witted humour. His magnetism and uncanny ability to make a friend in any room. His passion for sports, competition, and never backing down from a challenge. And at one point in our lives his dedication to raising us to be kickass women who wouldn’t take any shit.

He once told me he could sell a ketchup popsicle to a man in white gloves, and there’s no doubt in my mind that he could have.

I wish his story had been different. I wish addiction hadn’t taken so much from him, from us, and from the years we could have had together. But I’m learning that loving someone doesn’t mean you have to forget the hard parts, and grieving someone doesn’t mean you have to pretend their story was perfect.

He was my dad. He was someone I loved fiercely, someone who shaped so much of who I am and someone who will always have a place in my heart.

I hope wherever he is, he’s singing karaoke, shaking hands with Johnny Hockey, getting a big smack for his rude behaviour from his Irish mammy, and somehow convincing a man in white gloves to buy a ketchup popsicle. RIP dad, thank you for my 4 beautiful sisters 💓 by @lindsmithers

We had an inspiring session with Kevin Murphy’s “Learn Me Looks Styling” class, focusing on the latest hairstyling trends. Known for his innovative approach, Kevin Murphy’s class offered insights into new techniques and trends, from mastering texture dynamics to balancing volume and shape. We’re thrilled for our guests to see all the amazing techniques we’ve picked up in our Kevin Murphy styling class! We left with fresh perspectives and skills to bring back to our clients, keeping us at the forefront of the ever-evolving beauty industry. Thank you, to our talented educator Lindsay, for your time and knowledge leading this class with such expertise and enthusiasm 🫶 We truly had a wonderful day!
