Taking queues from Cartier’s history and entanglements with the Gulf, especially Bahrain, these posters present an alternative form of jewelry. Rather than pearls, these gems are precious for the multiple forms of labor leading to their rubble status. Conceived from modernist era ruins, the gems encapsulate the sudden rise and growth, fuelled by the energy sector and materialised as concrete. by @line.tifa

Crown Jewel IV - for Photos ala chair 28This piece is an ongoing series where I collect rubble, or gems, and string them together like jewelry pieces. The rubble, collected from the vicinity of the production site always embodies memories, labor and energy from its creation, inhabitation and destruction. Thank you to @camillezakharia & @aikarimi for inviting me to this version of photos ala chair. DXB.DW25 announces ‘Stories of the Isle and the Inlet’, by @maraj.works , a Bahrain-based architecture and design platform dedicated to research, education and practice, as winners of this year’s Abwab commission!Responding to the theme ‘In the Details’ their winning proposal explores the ecological and cultural layers of Nabih Saleh, a Bahraini island located between Tubli’s wetlands and Sitra’s industrial zone. Combining ornament and oral histories, ’Stories of the Isle and the Inlet’ reflects on a disappearing ecology while raising awareness of environmental preservation and cultural memory. Using locally sourced materials and crafted by Bahraini artisans, the installation tells the spatial story of Nabih Saleh island through layered embroidered textiles inspired by thob al nashil. Featuring native flora, fauna and Tubli Bay’s waters, it reimagines architectural principles through an ornamental language rooted in the island’s ecology.Congratulations to @maraj.works led by @line.tifa and @maryamaljomairi whose installation will be displayed during DXB.DW25.Dubai Design Week is held in strategic partnership with @d3dubai a member of TECOM Group PJSC and supported by @dubaiculture يُعلن أسبوع دبي للتصميم عن فوز ستوديو ‘مرج’ البحريني للهندسة المعمارية، التصميم و البحث والتعليم والممارسة، بجائزة ‘أبواب’ لهذا العام، عن العمل “حكايات الحواف البحرية”.استجابةً لمحور “في التفاصيل”، يستكشف مقترحهم الفائز الطبقات البيئية والثقافية لنبي صالح، وهي جزيرة بحرينية تقع بين أراضي توبلي الرطبة والمنطقة الصناعية في سترة. من خلال الجمع بين الزخارف والحكايات الشفهية، يتأمّل “حكايات الحواف البحرية” في البيئة المتلاشية، بينما يُعزّز الوعي بالحفاظ على البيئة والذاكرة الثقافية. باستخدام مواد من مصادر محلية ومصنوعة بأيدي حرفيين بحرينيين، تُروى قصة جزيرة نابي صالح المكانية من خلال منسوجات مطرّزة ومتعددة الطبقات، مُستوحاة من ثوب النشل. بتصويرها للنباتات والحيوانات المحلية ومياه خليج توبلي، تُعيد تشكيل المبادئ المعمارية من خلال لغة زخرفية متجذّرة في بيئة الجزيرة.تهانينا لمرج بقيادة لطيفة الخياط ومريم الجميري، واللذين سيُعرض عملهما خلال أسبوع دبي للتصميم DXB.DW25.يُقام أسبوع دبي للتصميم بالشراكة الاستراتيجية مع @d3dubai عضو في مجموعة تيكوم. وبدعم من @dubaiculture by @line.tifa

BTS - offcut/cutoff 2025As the IAP/J-term comes to an end, we find ourselves reflecting on the collective efforts and generosity that made offcut 2.0 possible. To our incredible teaching partners, Latifa, Maryam, @keith_j_l2. what an honor it has been to collaborate and learn alongside you. To the students, we are in awe. you’ve poured so much of yourselves into this class, and we can’t even begin to express how proud we are of each of you. Your hard work, openness, and willingness to take risks have been inspiring and shaped this experience in ways we’ll always carry forward. To Ahmed Abdulla Alkhaja, for opening Awal to us and encouraging a spirit of experimentation and curiosity, to try, fail, and keep trying. Just as he did to initiate production in Bahrain.To @awal.group - thank you for not just hosting us but welcoming us with such openness and patience.
