LB/Edge, Elk Grove, Sacramento.

Jayden having a season worth being proud of, he plays and adjust wherever on the field!
here’s the part that tells you why. He named his own weakness out loud. Most guys won’t. They’ll tell you what they’re good at and train that for four years.

He went the other way, went after the thing he was worst at, and now he’s the one telling you he sees it differently.

He didn’t get faster. He started seeing it.

Proud of you, Jay. Keep going. by @linebacker_prototype

Playing linebacker is a rotational game.

Your body moves in three planes. Sagittal is forward and back , sprinting, backpedaling, squatting. Frontal is side to side ,shuffling, lateral bounds. Transverse is rotation, your body turning around its own axis.

Almost every snap you play lives in that third one. Opening your hips to the flow. Crossing over to get width. Turning to run with a back. Rotating your hips through the tackle so you finish instead of catching.

Most training stays in the sagittal plane, because that’s what a squat and a straight-line sprint are. That produces an athlete who is fast until the moment he has to turn.

Your feet get you there. Your hips decide what happens when you arrive. by @linebacker_prototype

Your numbers haven’t improved since Week 1. That doesn’t mean you’re playing badly.

By October, offenses have four or five games of film on you. They start scheming against you, running away from you, sending double teams.

The problem is when you keep playing the exact same way.

You don’t need to change your entire game. You need to adjust, and that starts with fixing your past mistakes. Don’t just watch the film once and move on to next week. Stay in it. Critically study every mistake, because your next opponent will.

Improve as the season goes on, but fix what’s behind you too. by @linebacker_prototype

Tackling and change of direction are single-leg events. One foot plants, absorbs, redirects. The other one is in the air.

Most programs train bilateral force production and almost no single-leg force absorption. That gap shows up two ways on film: overrunning the tackle, and losing ground on the cut.

Produce on one leg. Absorb on one leg. Hold your position on one leg.

Train the leg you actually play on.

Two blitzing concepts that can add 10 to 15 TFLs to your season. This is what the guys in the academy are doing.

1. Entry Point Analysis
Know where the running back is lined up every time you blitz. It helps you anticipate the flow, so instead of blitzing a gap, you’re blitzing an entry point. That makes you much harder for the O-line to block.

2. Stunt Awareness
Understand your stunt and you can trim the fat from your path. Less wasted movement means you get to the ball carrier faster.

Blitz with a plan, not just aggression.

Elite linebackers are making plays you’re not making. The difference is what they look at.

They play with narrow vision. Before the snap, they read the backfield set. One back or two back tells them the flow and the type of run they’re about to see.

Then they read their own front. A 3-tech, a stack, a bubble, a wall. Each one either slows down their fits or lets them play faster.

Pre-snap keys come from both sides of the ball. Gather them, and play accordingly. by @linebacker_prototype

His senior year, Emile went from 3 to 14 TFLs. About one play behind the line every three games became almost two a game.

He didn’t get stronger. He didn’t get faster. Same body, same forty, same weight room numbers.

Three things changed.

	1.	Flow anticipation. The backfield tells you where the ball is going before anybody moves. Depth, alignment, which side of the quarterback. That’s free information on every single snap, and most linebackers throw it away.
	2.	Entry point analysis. Most guys blitz the gap they were given. He learned to pick the entry that gives the O-line the hardest block. The gap is not the target. The entry is.
	3.	Stunt awareness. What the D-line’s movement does to his path, and how to stay tight behind it without wasting a step. Every extra step is a step you never get back.

Then his hands, because getting there early means nothing if the first body you meet can hold on to you.

A tackle for loss is not a strength stat. It’s a timing stat. You’re not beating the blocker, you’re beating the play.

He didn’t get to the backfield faster. He stopped taking the long way there.
