It hasn’t been easy.

Dad had a stroke. Mom had a stroke. They nearly lost their home. At times, it felt like I was drowning in paperwork—kinda like swimming through one of those giant play pens filled with plastic balls... except the balls were paperwork and chaos.

Meanwhile, my little ones were calling, “Mama! Mama! Mama!” every 13 seconds.

“Mama, baby just went number two. 💩”
“Mama, I peed my pants.”
“Mama, the dog is eating baby’s poop!”
“Mama... I accidentally stepped in my pee and ran all over the house.”

Needless to say... every moment I get to train is something I truly cherish.

I spent a lot of time in the ICU over the past few months. I saw so much sadness, and it reminded me just how precious our bodies are. We only get one to live in for the rest of our lives.

So let’s take care of it. Eat nourishing food. Lift something heavy-ish. Get lotsa sleep. Give yourself grace. Treat it with the love and respect it deserves. Let’s not wait until we’re suffering to realize how valuable our lives are.

Happy Thanksgiving!! How are you all celebrating?

There is so much to be thankful for. There are never easy days. But there are often hard days. There are many, many hard days. But don’t ever let yourself stay down too long. You just take a deep breath, step away from the fire, and figure out a new plan.

Last night, my daughter had a meltdown after she awoke from a nightmare. She dreamt that her friend no longer wanted to play with her. I could see that this meant a lot to her, and that she had deep, deep pain. I completely empathized with her. I asked her to try to let it go. We did a breathing exercise together at two in the morning. Sit up tall. Breathe in deep, hold for five seconds, exhale for four. Close your eyes and think about something that makes you happy, something that you’re grateful for. After just three holdy-breaths, she was calm again. Sometimes, we just have to let it go, because ultimately, life is too precious for those little things to keep us down.

I’m thankful to all of YOU for being here with me. Thank you for having my 6, for your love, your funny comments, your insightful feedback. Without you, we wouldn’t have a @veteranpoweredfilms or @srestudios!

Thankful to my parents for giving me everything. They taught me that just because someone doesn’t have a lot to give doesn’t mean they did not give you their all.

Thankful to my brother with whom I grew up, always being my ride or die, always being first in line to be proud of me, always sharing the most eye-rolly puns, and being the best listener on hard days.

Thankful to @stephaniekomure for teaching me so much about voiceover and friendship.

Thankful to @scorereveal for brilliant ideas and for the oxygen tank to help my brother.

Happy Veterans Day!

@tangodownfilm was written by Marines and made by mostly a veteran cast & crew. Since it premiered in 2019, it's been picked up for distribution online and over various TV channels and outlets.

It is now available on our YouTube channel. (link in bio)

Our journey with veterans in filmmaking started back in 2017. @lingtime was talking with some of her veteran friends who shared that a lot of veterans really struggled with depression and transitioning back to civilian life.

She suggested filmmaking as a way to help veterans. At the time, there weren't nearly as many companies and programs focused on veterans in film as there are today. We didn't know quite what to expect.

Long story short, we were blown away and humbled by the incredible movement that ensued. We discovered that veterans are uniquely suited to and skillfully great at film production!

And more importantly, the concept really resonated with the veterans we worked with! Many from our cast and crew expressed how much they enjoyed the experience, and veterans from all around the world wrote us and shared with us how the movement had a positive impact on their lives too.

From that project, @veteranpoweredfilms was born, and we've been so busy since! We are looking forward to even more projects together and hoping to make a continued positive difference with the veteran community.

This post is so long overdue, but I am slowly catching up! lol

I wrote/directed a music video back in 2019 for @BlackbirdAnthem, which won Video Production of the Year and Best Rock Band at @josiemusicawards. This was all possible due to the continual hard work, passion and dedication from Adam Martin himself, and the DREAM TEAM we were lucky to work with. The cast & crew were 99% veterans & law enforcement. This original song by Blackbird Anthem was inspired to raise awareness, and we are all working to try and prevent further suicides amongst our military and veterans.

This was a special production. We cried. We screamed. We laughed. We hugged each other. We shared stories over beers, and we had a good time. It was a truly THERAPEUTIC and memorable experience.
