One hotel. Thousands of new beginnings. 💚What began as a renovation at Fairmont Winnipeg became a massive community reuse project.

Together, volunteers, agency partners, corporate supporters and Linking Hope staff helped redirect thousands of items into homes, shelters, transitional housing programs and community spaces across Manitoba.

The impact:

💚 $2 million+ in community assets preserved
💚 An estimated 55–65 tonnes kept out of landfill
💚 1,500+ volunteer hours, including 600+ Linking Hope staff hours
💚 More than 40 nonprofit organizations supported

Behind every number is a person, a family or a community space receiving something useful, needed and full of possibility.

To Fairmont Winnipeg and everyone who showed up, lifted, sorted, transported, coordinated and cared: thank you. You turned surplus into hope.

Final items available

Most smaller household items have now been distributed. We still have:

• King beds
• Split king box springs
• Heavy TV stand–style dressers weighing more than 300 lb

Linking Hope cannot assist with moving these items. Recipients must bring the appropriate vehicle, equipment and people.

Contact administration@linkinghope.ca by Friday, July 24.

The Fairmont project is nearly complete, but our warehouse work continues. To volunteer, email volunteer@linkinghope.ca or visit linkinghope.ca.

Together, we turned a hotel renovation into thousands of new beginnings. 💙💚

You have to see this! What an incredible piece of storytelling by Radio-Canada!

A huge thank you to the team at ICI Radio-Canada Manitoba for capturing Dean Gunnarson’s spectacular escape at Linking Hope this weekend.

100 years after Harry Houdini’s death, Dean recreated one of his legendary escapes — chained, handcuffed and submerged in a tank of water, with a crowd holding its breath!

But this wasn’t just about an incredible stunt.

It was about HOPE.

Houdini came from poverty and went on to inspire generations. Dean brought that message to Linking Hope to remind us that while escaping chains may be possible in minutes, escaping poverty takes community, opportunity and people willing to help.

Radio-Canada captured the excitement beautifully. The story is in French, but the suspense, emotion and message need no translation!

It’s worth watching — trust me!

🎥 Watch the full video through the link in our bio.

Thank you, Radio-Canada, for helping share this story!

He escaped the chains. He escaped the water. But escaping poverty? That’s a different kind of challenge. WOW! What an incredible afternoon at Linking Hope! 💙💚

Kids, teens, parents and grandparents gathered, holding their breath as the incredible Dean Gunnarson attempted a daring escape from a tank filled with water — while bound in chains!

There were cheers, gasps, nervous laughter and more than a few anxious faces! Dean certainly knows how to entertain a crowd!

But behind the excitement was a much bigger message. HOPE.

100 years ago today, Harry Houdini died. Born into poverty, he worked from a young age to help support his family. He went on to inspire millions, and a century later, we still remember him.

Dean believes Houdini gave people something powerful: hope. The belief that even when the odds seem impossible, there may be a way forward.

And that’s where his message connects so beautifully with Linking Hope.

Dean made escaping a tank of water while wrapped in chains look almost easy. But he knows escaping poverty is anything but.

It takes opportunity. Support. Community. And people willing to help others find a way forward.

Today, Dean gave us joy, excitement, a little stress (okay, maybe a LOT!) and a powerful reminder of why HOPE matters.

Thank you, Dean, for bringing your extraordinary talent, courage and heart to Linking Hope. And thank you to everyone who came out to share this unforgettable experience!

100 years later, Houdini’s legacy lives on. And so does the HOPE he inspired. 💙💚

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 👻💀🎃 Have a fun & safe weekend everyone! The Linking Hope Team had a fun time dressing up with the N’Dinawemak Webb Place Crew at their party for the relatives. It was also great to see the N’Dinawemak Community Care Team drummers welcoming relatives on the street in front on this beautiful sunny day.

Escaping poverty is hard. Escaping chains? That’s something Dean Gunnarson knows a thing or two about! 🔗

We are excited to welcome Winnipeg’s own world-renowned escape artist Dean Gunnarson to Linking Hope this Halloween for an extraordinary tribute to Harry Houdini!

On October 31, exactly 100 years after Houdini’s death, Dean will attempt a daring underwater escape, locked in handcuffs and chains, at precisely 1:26 p.m. — the moment Houdini passed away.

But there’s a bigger message behind this incredible stunt.

Escaping chains can take minutes. Escaping poverty can take years. And nobody should have to do it alone.

At Linking Hope, we bring businesses, volunteers and frontline agencies together to help people facing poverty and hardship.

We are thrilled that Dean has chosen Linking Hope for this special tribute, reminding us that even the toughest challenges become more manageable when a community comes together.

Some of life’s hardest escapes can’t be made alone. 💚

We know why… 💙💚

Because when a whole bunch of volunteers are moving, sorting and working hard, donations get where they’re needed faster!

Our amazing volunteers have been busy preparing donations from our many corporate partners.
And here’s the best part: those donations are heading out to our 140+ agency partners and alsointo communities across Manitoba, where they’ll make a real difference!

Businesses give. Volunteers move. Agencies deliver. Communities benefit. 💙💚

A huge thank you to ALL our hardworking regular volunteers volunteers and to BMO, Sephora, Brands for Canada, McNally Robinson, Carina and her team for keeping hope moving!

BMO is back… and putting community first! 💙🙌

Another fantastic volunteer day at Linking Hope with the Bank of Montreal (BMO) team!

They rolled up their sleeves and helped us sort and prepare donations from Sephora and Brands for Canada, along with wonderful donations from McNally Robinson, generously shared by Carina Blumgrund and her team.💙💙🙏💙💙

And here’s why that matters: Because of these volunteers, these goods will get into the community faster! Into the hands of our agency partners and the people they support across Manitoba.

That’s the magic of Linking Hope. Businesses sharing resources, volunteers giving their time, and community organizations getting what they need.

A HUGE thank you to BMO for showing up once again, and to Sephora, Brands for Canada, McNally Robinson, Carina and her team for helping make it all possible!

Businesses give. Volunteers move. Communities benefit. That’s Linking Hope! 💙

Businesses give. Volunteers move. Communities benefit. That’s Linking Hope! 💚

Yesterday, our hardworking volunteers were busy sorting, organizing and getting everything ready. Today, those goods were on the move! Even our friends at DASCH and WASO helped out in the morning.

We welcomed BUILD, Spence Neighbourhood Project, John Howard Society, NorWest Community Co-op, Marlene Street, Elwick-FD, Elizabeth Fry, Equal Housing Initiative and the DCSP Indigenous Women’s Group, 1Just City & PCP for Agency Collection Day.

And what a perfect day to welcome Dave Funk from Western Glove for a tour!

Western Glove is one of our incredible corporate partners, generously supplying much-needed clothing that we distribute through our network of 140+ agency partners, reaching communities across Manitoba.

Today, Dave got to see that generosity in action — from donated goods to volunteers preparing them to agencies getting them into the community.

That’s the beauty of Linking Hope. Everyone has a part to play, and together, we make things happen!

A huge thank you to our volunteers, agency partners and Western Glove for keeping hope moving! 💚

$6.5 MILLION! What an incredible night for Harvest Manitoba! 🧡

Linking Hope was thrilled to join friends and community partners at Harvest Manitoba’s Empty Bowls Celebrity Auction Dinner last night. A beautiful evening, incredible food, great company and a community coming together to fight hunger.

And what a night for generosity!

A record-breaking $6.5 million raised, including an extraordinary $5 million gift from the Doug Harvey and Jan Shute Family Foundation to support the new Manitoba Food Transformation Centre.

This centre will help rescue and preserve more fresh food, reduce food waste and get more food to Manitobans who need it, including those in remote communities.

Less waste. More food. More hope. That’s something we can certainly get behind at Linking Hope!

Congratulations to Vince Barletta, Lauren Harvey & Margaret Redmond and the entire Harvest Manitoba team, the gala organizers, volunteers and everyone who made this historic evening possible.

A wonderful reminder of what happens when a community comes together. 🧡

🧡 Today, we listened. We learned. We walked together.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Linking Hope team was grateful to spend time together at the walk and ceremonies — listening, learning, connecting and reflecting.

Truth and reconciliation matter deeply to us.

So much of the work we do brings us alongside Indigenous-led organizations, communities, Elders, families and relatives. Those relationships have taught us that reconciliation isn’t something we acknowledge only on September 30. It is something we need to carry into how we show up, how we listen, how we build relationships and how we support community every day.

Today was also a beautiful opportunity for our staff to step away from the warehouse and our usual work and experience the day together. We walked, took part in the ceremonies, learned — and genuinely enjoyed being together as a team and as part of the larger community.

We are grateful to everyone who shared their teachings, stories, culture and space today.

We honour the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, their families and their communities.

There is still much to learn and much work to do.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

Mitch Bourbonniere 💓 I will walk anywhere with you.

What an honour to introduce Mitch as the University of Manitoba’s 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient for Community Service.

I’ve walked Main Street with Mitch, but what has always struck me isn’t how many people he knows. It’s how many people walk with him.

Mitch has taught me that giving doesn’t have to be complicated. It has to be consistent. Show up. Do what you can. Then show up again. Mitch.docx

And that is what happens around Mitch. People he has supported become helpers. Helpers become leaders. Leaders start their own walks, programs and organizations — and bring more people with them. Mitch.docx

You have taught me so much about community, dignity and what it means to simply keep showing up.

Mitch, I am incredibly fortunate to call you my mentor and my friend — but I’m only one of hundreds who could say the same thing:

We are better because you walked with us. ❤️

And congratulations to all of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients — Dr. Ernest Cholakis, Ron Paley, Dr. Lorena Sekwan Fontaine, Kelsey Wog, and of course, Mitch Bourbonniere. An incredible group of Bisons making an impact in very different ways. So well deserved. 💛 by @linkinghopewpg
