POV: The boys are on the golf course and I’m fighting for my life in a pumpkin patch; save me, please 🎃⛳️

I’ve had a few clubs which just hit different. They’re genuinely part of the family. We all swap and change but, what’s your favourite club you’ve had in your bag, ever…

Let me know. Go ⬇️💬

Scratch golfers are just different. 3 holes, 0 handicap, and a lesson in how much I’ve still got to learn 😅 Road to Scratch continues.

Who’s up next? ⛳️ 👇

Question for @theopen in full, er, swing?

Clocks have gone back, which means after work golf is officially done for the year 🌒⛳️

Feels like the right time to look back on the season. Some cracking courses, a lot of early tee times and late finishes, and best of all, loads of rounds with the best people.

Make sure to stick with it to the last slide… I doubt many of you managed one of these this season 👀🦅🦅

What’s your favourite hole at Conwy? 🤔

I had a bad golf experience… 😐

Been lucky enough to be asked on a few occasions to play for the Scratch Team at Conwy, but always given excuses. Some justified, some not so much.

Truth is, I had a bad experience playing for another county about 10 years back - Playing doubles, partner bangs one up the middle. I’ve got 100 yards left and skull it OB over the back. Lost the hole, lost the match, ‘partner’ (captain and senior player) didn’t talk to me the whole way around and (the worst bit) he went around bad mouthing me in the clubhouse after the morning session. Literally zero words of encouragement for the young buck, just all negative hate.

I could sense people looking at me, giving the side eye etc, while I was eating my chips. Just wasn’t a nice feeling and I absolutely hate letting people down so was a bit of a double whammy.

I was only young at the time, early 20’s. Now, I’m usually pretty thick skinned with other things in life, but that day did affect me, from a team golf perspective, anyway.

You could reasonably say that my confidence took a bit of a knock when it came to playing for anyone apart from myself. I thought, it’s just not worth feeling that way and decided I’d just focus on playing for me, and me alone.

No one else to blame and no one blaming me.

Since then I’ve developed my game a bit more and don’t make the same errors I used to when I was off 4 and 5. Well, I do but make them less often.

I’ve held scratch / +1 / +2 since 2019 and feel the confidence flowing again. I feel like on my very worst days I’m still shooting in the 70’s, which feels good.

Cut a long story, I’ve said yes to team golf again. Excited to tee it up with the lads in the league this winter. It does feel a bit more like a community but with that competitive edge you need.

Great to get some nice gear provided by the club too, @glenmuir1891 coming through with the 1/4 zip and polo.

I don’t usually play much over the winter but, with a few club matches and the goal of @theopen qualifying, I think this winter might be different.

Last thought. Just be nice and enjoy golf for what it is at our standard, a game.

I’m certainly not the best golfer at my club, and I don’t always play my best golf. But one thing I’ve learnt is that knowing your game and knowing how to get around a golf course can make a huge difference to your scores, and your handicap.

You don’t need a perfect swing or to hit every shot out of the middle. Sometimes, it’s about understanding your strengths, managing your misses and making smarter decisions when things aren’t going your way.

So, here are 5 no-nonsense tips that I genuinely believe can help you start shooting lower scores, without completely rebuilding your game.

Stick around for number 5, because this is arguably the biggest one 👀
