Bosnia photo dump

Hiiii….
Once again I’ve gone incognito lol😭

Spent all of last week in Bosnia with my friends and had such an amazing time!!

The people are truly amazing and the food?! for the first time in years I eat meat and enjoyed it!🫣

We did have our fair share of girl drama, which did but a damper on the trip. But all in all we had a really good time!!

I’m nearly done with my tbr for september!! For the first time in ages I might read over 10 books in a month!!

I’m going to stockholm today with my family over the weekend because my nephew is turning 1?!?!
Ahhhhh
It’s like 5 hours there and 5 hours back so I’ve brought 3 books and my kindle to read on the road!!

Been reading like crazy, and have already managed to read 5 books this month!!

Been at work mostly and trying to navigate writing my thesis😭🫣

Me and some friends are off tomorrow for a trip, where we hope to write our thesis!

Hello
Tomorrow is the first of september! Which means it’s the first day of Autumn. I know some parts of the world have specific days for when autumn starts, but in Sweden autumn is september, october and november.

So I’ve counted out the average value for how many books I’ve read each month this year and that came out to 7,4 so I rounded up to 8. So I’ve prepared 24 books for Autumn from my physical tbr and also my kindle. As always I try to mix all sorts of genres so there’s always something I want to read no matter my mood!

Books from West Asia and North Africa

So this post has been a long time coming, but when I saw @mostdefinitelyreading post about south asian literature i finally felt inspired to do it!
Check out her post that’s amazing and has great recommendations!

I made a story at the beginning of the year asking for recommendations and had as a goal to read one book from every single Arabic speaking country but have since only managed to read from Palestine, which was Men in the sun.

This first photo is from when I was in Damascus years ago, and I’ve always loved this photo!!🥺

It was a bit hard being able to find books for this challenge as I do not yet have the arabic skills to read the books in arabic and therefore had to find books that have been translated but also that would interest me!

I’ve ended up with a mix of poetry, short stories, novels and nonfiction!

I think I’m going to finally do it, and I know I won’t be able to finish this challenge this year but hope to do it next year!

Also note that I haven’t used the world Middle east and therefore, some of the countries who are neither part of west Asia nor North Africa are still on the list as they are Arabic speaking countries!

Also instagram labeled this as Ai? for some reason? i’ve used absolutely 0 ai for this but sure!

Would love any and all recommendations for this challenge!!

Hiiii, so it’s been forever…

I saw this trend literally 30 mins ago, and thought it looked fun, so I did it!

I actually love this picture because it’s taken at my grandparents house and it’s one of my favorite places to be🥹

I’ve missed being on bookstagram so much, but the whole time I was in Lebanon I was so busy.

I’m hoping to post like a summer wrap up soon, and also to catch up on everyone’s posts.
I start work again on monday.. but uni doesn’t start till september so that’s nice!

oh june, time moves to fast

after months of pending between yes or no, my mom and I finally decided to go to Lebanon after all.
the thought of not seeing our family for one more year was too much to bear. we’ve been here a week now and to be amongst family is a joy hard to describe.

june brought with it many things, the ending of uni for the summer, summer working at school, ashura and many more things.

did i manage to finish my tbr this month? ofc no…
but i did read a total of 6 books!

all in all it wasn’t the best reading month rating wise but i did enjoy several parts of all the books i read.

𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 🪻

what i’ve been up to this week, spent most of my reading time with the secret garden and i’ll give you the sun both of which i’m hoping to finish today. i’m loving i’ll give you the sun but don’t know what i think of the secret garden just yet.

yesterday was the last real school day for the kids and now til the end of june school is open but all we’re gonna do is have activities and play all day which i love, it’s like summer camp ish but at school? allows us to spend some quality time with the kids.

also got some new books this week, so excited to finally read ripe and i who have never known men!

had a hajj celebration for one of my friends who got back from hajj the other day and it was so special!!

hoping to spend this weekend reading and finally watching every summer after!! plus listening to olivia rodrigo’s new album!! good week to be a fan girl!

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑩𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓

The book follows Mary Bennet a character from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, that is often ignored and doesn’t at all get the recognition she deserves, Hadlow writes about Mary and makes her shine

Mary Bennet has always fascinated me, because of how Austen writes her and how that in turn has translated to all the adaptations, where Mary is made out to be this half wit and very unattractive character.

The book starts from Mary’s childhood and follows along many of the plots that happen in Pride and Prejudice, but from Mary’s point of view.

In my opinion it is very hard today to write like Jane Austen but Hadlow manages to write as if this book is just another Austen, in the way that the style is so similar, but yet she has her own unique style, but she is able to capture the Austen vibe perfectly.

Mary grew up with four beautiful sisters and is constantly told by her mother that she isn’t nearly as beautiful or important as them. Mary decides to turn to books to see if she can understand the world through them. I think this was one of my favorite parts, because as we all know Lizzie is a huge reader but loves fiction. While Mary uses books to try and make sense of the world and of the feelings, that’s why in Pride and Prejudice when Mary speaks she tries to use her knowledge to help the situations but is often ignored and dismissed.

I haven’t related so deeply to a character in a while, I understand Mary the way she tries to use knowledge as protection. How she’s trying to find her place in a world that is constantly against her.

I love how when she finally distances herself from her family she’s able to grow and become who she’s meant to be!! To be able to stand up for herself and fall in love is everything to me! The love story was so beautifully written and only works because of all the progress Mary has made.

There’s so much more to be said about this book but I’ll leave it here for now! Safe to say I absolutely loved this book and hope to finish the show soon! Also this song is so Mary Bennet, I’ve been listening to it for ages, but when I was reading the book I was LIKE OMG THIS IS MARYS SONG! by @linoreads

May recap 🌷

I feel like i’ve been away from bookstagram this whole month. Real life has been busy, I feel like i’ve been out and doing things all the time so that my social battery has just completely been drained the whole time. Also mentally this months hasn’t been the best for me.

I’ve celebrated multiple birthdays! 3 of my friends birthdays!!? And my baba turned 60 aswell🎉

I’ve spent a lot of time in nature and it has reminded me
of how much I love spring!!
My mom and me spent a few days in Germany visiting my aunt and cousins, and it was so fun! My moms side of the family is truly insane 🙂‍↕️

I managed to read 8 books this month!! Although I was trying to reach 10, next month I feel will be a good reading month. One of my goals for this year was to read more quality over quantity and I feel like atleast in that I have managed!!

Also I’m being so good and reading a lot from my physical tbr, I’m down to 61 books! (but also i just bought 4 books so back to 65)

I finally finished The Jasad Crown yesterday, and omg the tears ahhh! need to make a post for that duology!!

I have so many books I want to write reviews for and post so hopefully I’ll get to it soon!

First thank you to Alaa for allowing me to read this ahead of time!

I started reading this book during ramadan and kept reading it when I was in Paris. And when I say I had to fight tears on the Paris metro…

This book will rip your heart out!
I love sad books so this was obviously perfect for me!

Also used some of my own pictures from when I went to Ziyarah in Iraq.

Because I read the book during ramadan I didn’t listen to any music, but the whole album Dunya by Mustafa, feels like it was written for this book. A recommended listen always!!

April literally flew by, and I was making this recap I realized I barely took any pictures this month?
I’ve been working almost the whole month, I still have uni, but we’re taking such unimportant classes that I can’t be bothered to go🤭 I barely go to the important classes lol

I don’t have a lot to say about this month. Been in a very deep pride and prejudice phase, trying to rewatch and do first time watches of all the adaptations.

Hoping to post a review for pride and prejudice and also one for the other bennet sister soon!

Unfortunately 2 of my reads this month, ”out of the woods” and ”the ordeal of being known” were such disappointing reads, which I’m very sad about🥲

My May tbr is somehow even longer than my April one, but it’s a bunch of short books and easy reads hopefully!
