Esclat is the name of the typeface I created for my diploma project last June, marking the culmination of my three years in the DNMADE Typography program at École Estienne. This typeface aims to represent Catalan culture without reducing it to a mere image of the past.

Esclat is directly inspired by trencadís, a mosaic technique popularized during Catalan Modernism, which consists of assembling fragments of faience in irregular, dynamic patterns. For this project, I reimagined these forms to create a contemporary typeface that reflects this playful and fragmented spirit.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to @ecole_estienne and my professors, Franck Jalleau, Sterenn Bourgeois, Laurence Collard, Serge Cortesi, Philippe Bushinger, for their guidance throughout this project, as well as to my friends, whose advice was invaluable. Last spring @lionel_type did an internship at the office for three months. Together we have developed several styles for Kateka.
