Old footage - This was my FIRST ever match. I saw @liquidswordsbjj on my Instagram and I was dying to test myself.

At this point I was a white belt with about a year of experience. (No I don’t miss the mullet). Jiu Jitsu came pretty quick and easily to me.

I had always loved watching the ufc. My friends and I used to beat each others a**es in the backyard when we were kids. We thought we were Chuck Liddell and BJ Penn.

So when I started training I was obsessed and focused. Frankly I thought I was a lot better than I really was. This first test was my first dose of humility from Jiu Jitsu. Which I am SO grateful for.

This was a sub only 5 minute match. I came in practicing none of the overtime rules. I thought there was no way I don’t sub this guy before overtime. Shown in the video above is me coming very close to winning off of the back take.

I lost to the overtime arm bar shortly after. What initially was a heartbreak. Lit a FIRE under me. Losses can make or break you. It’s up to you to decide what happens next. by @liquidswordsbjj
