@rashidasheedz also gets me sharks every time she back in town whether I’m pregnant or not hahahaha but particularly when I’m with new child. What can I say? I’m a sharks girly

My daughter asked me what I would do if I was president so I decided to share the answer with you future communituents (community + constituents)

Phase 1: get rid of the role of presidency to prep for Phase 5: reintroducing community. So Greta will be like lead captain on initiatives regarding our little climate problem.

And boom, at the end of our Phases Quest (just made that title up) we’ll all be naked picking fruit off of trees living on a full barter system that includes commerce but capitalism would be lame. Daddy Besos gon have to set up vendor table at the function like the rest of us.

Please stop placing alive people in the center of flyers with their shoulders fading out and words underneath. I may be in a sensitive phase in my life but I’m tired of the 💀 jump scares and it’s just a birthday shout out.

I should give a workshop on how to make a flyer NOT look like an obit

Fun fact: as a graphic designer, I used to design obits and one day, I accidentally put the wrong face on the cover. I accidentally used the face of the woman that was coming to pick up the programs 🤣🤣🤣 by @lisabevolving

I gave birth to another beautiful baby girl this week. The love of my life, Andre and I welcomed our Penelope into the world 3 weeks early coincidentally during #BlackMaternalMentalHealthWeek

While I enjoyed the cozy privacy of pregnant life, I wanted to share with the world that I overcame high risk factors with minimal complications and after induction, I was able to deliver naturally at 40 years old. I was taken care of and after the terrifying experience of giving birth 10 years ago, I felt very confident advocating for myself and felt very safe with a partner that advocated for me heavily along the way.

Thank you to my closest friends for carrying me throughout pregnancy.

Thank you all for keeping my spirits lifted when you didn’t even know you were.

Some of you, this is your first impression of me ever. Tsk tsk catch up.

I am surrounded by an abundance of joy and love. Recovery is going well.

Professionally, I am taking maternity leave for the rest of my life and I did not log this baby into the portal.

I am leaving my social media in the very capable hands of @kevnjaxn in the meantime because I don’t trust @corporate_erin to take over my social media anymore.

To celebrate, I ask that you find time to donate to organizations and people that:
- plan diaper drives or community baby showers
- support doulas who support Black mothers
- make advances with preeclampsia research and overall keep driving the conversation on how to keep Black women alive during and long after labor and delivery.

Lastly, I’m not good at the whole concealing thing and I don’t plan on practicing. So if you see me whip this titty out in public, I’m just feeding a baby no biggie by @lisabevolving

My soul rejoices and aches. My brother was 2 years older than me and passed away when he was 35. I don’t talk about him but this @realfredh tiny desk concert surprised me and etched another healing mark in my grief journey.

LaMar was a musical genius. The type that saw colors when he played. Never caring for reading music, by the time he was 16, by ear, he mastered the drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, keyboard, piano, and organ. Before he graduated from high school, he was our church’s MD and these are some of the songs he taught us. Back then I used joke that he WAS Fred Hammond.

I always wanted to sing coveted solos and finally before I left for college to major in music, he let me lead “when the spirit of the lord” and that’s when I knew I could sing sing sing and wasn’t off key. He was the only one I trusted to be like “AHT AHT you flat or AHT AHT too sharp.”

Beyond music, he never made me feel like the annoying little sister, his friends protected me, let me play the clarinet and sax alongside them in the church band and he always passed me the ball like I was one of his boys so I could learn how to catch fr fr. We played summer long basketball games and keep the score continuous.

I wholly followed singing passions hard for 15 years after that church solo and then he died in 2019 and I stopped singing publicly.

Performance wise, I rested in comedy only.

One day I may sing again. I miss sitting in the power of my own voice but it’s too hard cause I can’t look to my left and communicate with my eyes “that sound right?” and when I’m around instruments you gotta plug into an amp, it’s so hard.

His birthday is June 30th and I dedicate this post to him. I want yall to know, I had a brother once and being that close to his genius journey helped me recognize my own. We were just some gifted and talented (and traumatized) kids from Gary that had no idea how uniquely talented we were. We just really loved music. by @lisabevolving

I created a wishlist of items that will help me feel more 40
If you want to celebrate with me in my bio.

I’m very excited.

Getting older, I realized I was one of those people that didn’t think past 25. Not only because I was a leader of a gang that one time but because i just couldn’t conceptualize my 40s or 50s and beyond. Living for the day survival mode type life.

Now, I’m still the leader of that prominent gang but with a future. I love my life and I’m going to love my 40s.
