👩🏼‍🍳Food is more than what’s on our plate, it’s the connection between cultures, the keeper of history, and a reason to gather, explore, and savor the present.

🍷Sip. Eat. Explore. Stories. behind great food from chefs to farmers one conversation and dish at a time from around the globe!

➡️ Follow @sipeatexplorestories to meet the chefs, farmers, makers, and innovators shaping food across cultures and borders.

✈️ Food and travel have always been my passion. Before the pandemic, I had the exciting opportunity to attend restaurant openings, work at MetroCooking DC, manage the Culinary Stage at Taste of D.C., and interview chefs on camera for Swizzle Chill TV. Or simply come up with new dishes on my own and teach my nephew how to cook.

🍝 Now, I’m excited to continue that journey with Sip. Eat. Explore. Stories. This account will explore the people, traditions, history, and flavors that shape our food from chefs and farmers to artisans, and the cultures behind every dish.

🍝#NationalPastaDay meant pulling out my pasta maker and attempting beet pasta. Again. This time with beet powder from food processed beet chips. The last time I tried to make beet pasta with beet juice it looked more like a pasta crime scene. Guilty. Guilty of totally failing at making it as beet juice went everywhere in the kitchen (and on me) except for mixing with the dang flour! This time. I nailed it.
DROP BEET. 🫜🎤

I know it’s not perfect. It could be thinner. The red color faded as it boiled. The way like can drain our color at times. The depth I could take this! But it tasted delish. Next time more beet powder and thinner dough. by @lisacomento

🍁 Oh, hi, Fall. 👋🏼 I swear it was just May, then I sneezed and suddenly it’s the end of September. Some kind of twisted time trick. As of tomorrow, we’ll have just 96 days left in 2026.

So, let this random post of mine (and thank you if you’ve made it this far) be your sign to finally finish that passion project, try something new, or make a change you’ve been thinking about.

Maybe you started it last year. Seven years ago. Or last week. It’s still not too late. Success doesn’t have a deadline.

I love a good festival, supporting local, and finding an excuse to sip, eat, explore, and experience something new or maybe find a new treasure. 🍂✨ taken in North Carolina by @lisacomento

@atlfoodandwine was full of sipping, eating, and exploring new dishes both from other countries and from chefs based in Atlanta, Georgia (@sipeatexplorestories). The 4-day food extravaganza was held between Thursday, September 10-Sunday, September 13.

I was craving a food adventure, so I flew to Atlanta for @atlfoodandwine and spent Friday, September 11 diving into the festival. A huge summer storm rolled in an hour before showtime, and the staff, volunteers, and security did a great job pivoting and pushing the festival back an hour. Rogue raindrops didn’t stop our fun they just made my hair quite frizzy from the humidity. Why did I bother styling my hair?

I was especially excited to see @chefaz, who was the guest celebrity chef. His live demo featured a fried noodle dish, and I picked up a few tricks I’ll definitely be trying the next time I make noodles. Chef Zimmern was also hilarious and genuinely fun to watch. He made a point of thanking everyone who helped make the festival happen and encouraged us to thank the staff and volunteers whenever we saw them.

I was in my element sipping and eating my way through the festival. I missed this environment so much! And, yes, I was probably the only nerd who brought reusable utensils. 🤭

These delicious bites stood out:

🍄 Charcoal-Grilled Lion’s Mane Mushroom from @nahmfinethaicuisine
🍗 Peruvian “Pollo a la Brasa” from @chefdavidaaron
🐑 A Barbados-inspired Caribbean dish from @thebtmi with lamb, pickled onion, and squash
🥚 Oxtail egg rolls from Chef Danielle at @spicehouse_midtown

Soaked by a summer storm, slightly defeated by Atlanta humidity, and very well fed—I’d say this food adventure was worth the flight. ✈️🍴🔥 taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @lisacomento

🍜 Thank you, @chefaz, for humoring me and letting me grab a quick selfie with you at @atlfoodandwine Friday night! I managed to score the best seat right in the center and was able to capture a few clips of his delicious food demo.

I’ve long admired how he introduced so many of us to incredible foods, bites, street eats, and culinary traditions that were largely unknown to mainstream audiences through Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern on the Travel Channel.

🌎🍽️ He didn’t just take us around the world, he celebrated the people, cultures, and generations-old food traditions behind every bite. And that kind of storytelling is something I’ve always found incredibly inspiring.

So, getting to meet you in person? Pretty damn cool. 😎 taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @lisacomento

🌻Friday morning, I escaped the city and wandered into the magical garden of @atlbotanical. There’s something special about stepping away from the hustle bustle of a city to breathe in nature, and discover a new botanical garden nearby. I braved the 90 degree temps to explore this urban oasis.

🌎 The Earth Goddess was actually one of the first garden images I came across when I joined APGA four years ago, and I remember thinking, I hope I get to see her in person someday. Four years later, there she was and somehow, she was more breathtaking up close.

📸 The hardest part of this post? Narrowing down nearly 50+ photos to just 20!

🌿 If you’re visiting Atlanta for work or pleasure, be sure to carve out time for this spectacular 30-acre urban oasis. It’s definitely worth getting lost in for a few hours as you wander along the garden paths and through the orchid conservatory. The scents inside the conservatory will make you wish you could bottle it up as a perfume.

🐢 Can you spot Carmine their resident snapping turtle?

🍺 ⚔️SIP: The adventure begins as you make your way down Ellis Street in downtown Atlanta and take a right onto Carnegie, you will suddenly discover a Viking-inspired wonderland. This massive high-end brewpub is a treasure trove of creative craft beers, Nordic flavors, and a game room to satisfy both your inner foodie and your inner child.

Kicking off this @sipeatexplorestories journey at @skolbrewatl meant sipping delicious Georgia-made craft beer, eating Nordic-inspired dishes, and exploring a space that feels like an adventure of its own. I could not agree more with their motto that Bad Decisions = Good Stories. 📖

The food was created by Atlanta celebrity chef @richrosendale, whose robust menu made choosing what to eat nearly impossible since everything sounded absolutely scrumptious!

From the food and beer to the larger-than-life Viking atmosphere, SKOL made for a pretty epic first stop on this culinary adventure. Their staff is also friendly and welcoming. SKOL is what you say when you Cheers in Norwegian.🍻

And this is just the beginning… 🍺🍽️🌎

💚 Pesto is my kryptonite. Well, one of them. Experimented with a new pesto recipe using arugula, garden basil, sherry wine, lemon juice, and dashes of cumin and smoked paprika. The sauce is over quinoa pasta and butter lemon juice basted shrimp. Topped with goat cheese. Another kryptonite. And new favorite healthish pasta dish.

🥳 8.26.26 - For my birthday lunch, we ventured to Carrboro to dine @thaistation_carrboro_nc, which is housed in Carrboro’s historic 1913 train station and incorporates old train cars into the restaurant.

The food was even more delicious than their photos! Pad See Ew with flat wide rice noodles, broccoli, and tofu in a sweet soy sauce is a favorite Thai dish of mine.

I absolutely love seeing old buildings, schools, train stations, and other historic spaces given a second life as homes, restaurants, shops, and community spaces. There’s something so special about preserving the character and history of a place while finding a new way for people to enjoy it and create new memories there. Instead of tearing down what came before, these kinds of restorations let the past become part of the present and I’m always excited to discover them! taken in Thai Station Restaurant Carrboro NC by @lisacomento

🌞 Summer is slipping away too fast! Yesterday we kicked off the day riding an ostrich and on train at Pullen Park. The lake was drained so pedal boats were a no go.

🍤 He was craving seafood (I’m always craving seafood) and the closest best option was @capefearseafoodcompany. Luke kept commenting how beautiful and fancy it was inside. I don’t think he’s been to many restaurants like this so it’s fun seeing his excitement. He loved the big shrimp we just wish they gave us more than six so I had our server bring out a few more for him to enjoy.

🦑 He was game to try fried calamari and loved it! Hesitant to try the legs until he saw how much I loved them. He tried a small sized bunch of legs and also loved it. So proud of him and it warms my heart that I’m helping to expand his palate. Plus he’s so willing to try new foods when we hang out. #proudaunt 🥰

⛳️ Onto Glow Golf! Mythic MiniGolf opened recently. We chose the intermediate and advanced rounds. He won both. No, I did not let him win. 😄🤦🏼‍♀️

🤦🏼‍♀️ Oh and yeah, I’m a brunette at the moment. Long story. The blonde will return soon…. by @lisacomento
