One of my favorite things to do in the fall is to go apple picking up to the Hudson Valley to the beautiful Philip Orchards in Claverack, New York. You can drive in and walk around and pick all sorts of beautiful apples. There are picnic tables to have a lovely picnic. Maria made charming mugs and hats as sweet mementos.

We had a wonderful night at @pangeanyc! We were delighted by how many people came out during a Nor’Easter to celebrate Irving Berlin with @deannakirkofficial, @johndimartinojazzpiano and @lisafaithphillips. And a special birthday for dear @louisewannier

With the divine singer @deannakirkofficial and the brilliant @johndimartinojazzpiano, we weave funny and touching tales of Irving Berlin’s amazing life and loves with his beautiful songs.
At just 13 years old, Berlin had to support himself singing for coins on the streets of the Lower East Side, but with the success of his song Alexander’s Ragtime Band at 21, his career took off. Tragically his first wife died shortly after their marriage and his second wife’s millionaire father disowned her for marrying him, inspiring many of his most haunting love songs. During his sixty-year career, Berlin wrote the music and lyrics for over 1,500 songs, from Always to White Christmas!

It will be a rollicking laughter-filled evening, and we’ll end with a crowd-pleasing sing-along of God Bless America! (You may want to bring tissues...)

Irving Berlin met his adored second wife when at an Algonquin Round Table party she came up and said I love your song, “What shall I do?”
Charmed he admitted she was grammatically, correct and invited her to continue the party at a speakeasy. Her wealthy father disowned her for marrying a Jewish Tin Pan Alley songwriter.
