Cast resin and sand, acrylic paint and antique wooden frame.

H 17.5 cm x W 15.5 cm x D 5 cm

🇬🇧Inspired by the seaside village where I was born, Ballygally in Northern Ireland, I’ve created a series of small heart castings in sand, set against the backdrop of antique wooden frames. These pieces embody my affection for the place, as well as the bittersweet feeling of homesickness that comes with being away. The dark sand hearts serve as a poignant reminder of the place that will forever hold a piece of my heart.

“The Door was always Open”
🔴SOLD
Air dry clay, mirror, acrylic paint and wooden cage

H 17.5 cm x W 20 cm x D 10.5 cm

🇬🇧In an antique wooden cage, a small female bird figure stands before an open door. She does not leave.

Beside her, an aged mirror and two pillows hold the imprint of her head — evidence of a long residence, of a life made inside.

She becomes a symbol of our own ambivalence toward freedom, of the moment when captivity becomes comfort, and comfort becomes identity. The open door is no longer an invitation, but a question she is not yet ready to answer. by @lisaginglesart

“El Hombre que convertía en Árbol”
(The man Who became Tree’)
🔴SOLD
Polymer clay sculpture in wooden box and old book cover.

27 x 15.5 x 8 cm.

🇬🇧In 1588, a soldier from the ill-fated Spanish Armada was swept ashore at Ballygally Beach. Local residents discovered him and laid him to rest at St. Patrick’s Church, where he was buried without a headstone. Years later, a sweet chestnut tree, now known as “The Spanish Armada Tree,” sprouted from his gravesite. Legend has it that the soldier had carried seeds in his pockets to combat scurvy, and from this simple beginning, a majestic tree grew, symbolizing the cycle of life and death. Having been born in Ballygally, with my family’s cottage just across from the beach where the soldier was found, I felt a deep connection to this story and was inspired to bring it to life..

“The Illusion of Company”

Air-dry clay, mirror, acrylic paint and wooden cage
H 16.5 cm x W 1 cm x D 10.5 cm

🇬🇧In a delicate, handmade wooden cage, a tiny, humanoid bird figure sits in quiet contemplation, accompanied only by the gentle curve of a round mirror. With her back turned to the mirror, she becomes a powerful symbol of the human experience of loneliness and disconnection, highlighting the poignant reality that, sometimes, our only companion is our own reflection. The title’s suggestion that her companionship is illusory serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of human connection.

“The elefant in the room II”
🔴SOLD

Air-dry clay, acrylic paint and wooden box
H 28.5 cm x W 23.5 cm x D 10 cm

🇬🇧The title borrows the English idiom for an obvious truth everyone can see but no one names aloud, a phrase whose exact origins are debated but whose meaning has stayed constant: something too large to miss, deliberately unspoken. In this second instalment of the series, Gingles gives that avoided presence physical form, modelled in air-dry clay and sealed within its wooden box. The box itself becomes complicit in the silence, holding its outsized subject just out of view, asking the viewer to decide whether opening it is an act of honesty or one more way of looking away.

“The Owl and the Pussycat”
🔴SOLD
36.5 x 23 x 9 cm.
Air-dry clay, resin and sand, acrylic paint

🇬🇧The nursery rhyme “The Owl and the Pussycat” by Edward Lear has been a source of inspiration for me. When my father and Jude sang it to me a few months ago, it brought back memories of my childhood. As I listened to the rhyme, I began to think about the things we forget as we grow older. The rhymes, stories, and memories that we accumulate in our childhood often get buried deep within us, only to resurface years later.

I created two figures, an owl and a cat, holding hands and standing on dark sand, made from real sand from the beach in my hometown. They’re dressed in blood-red bathing suits, symbolizing their vulnerability and exposure. Their hands are tied together in the traditional Irish way of hand fasting, representing their commitment to each other.

This piece is a reflection on the complexities of relationships. Even when things get tough, we can still choose to hold on to each other.

“A Lesson in Letting Go”
🔴 SOLD
22.5 x 24 x 14 cm
Polymer clay, acrylic paint and wooden box

🇬🇧In conversation with my father about one of his works, “The Bricoleur”, we started talking about the little wooden bunny with a blue jumpsuit inside.
As a child he had a very dear rabbit just like that - with a blue jumpsuit that you could put on and take off, again and again. He would be about 5 years old when one day he came back from school and was no longer there. His mother had given it away.
He still remembers.
In this piece he is already older, perhaps turned into a rabbit himself, sitting in his chair with the bunny in his hand - almost touching the ground, but without letting him go completely.
He talks about those small and silent childhood traumas that accompany us until adulthood. How we cling so tightly to small things because they love us unconditionally. And from the lesson of a lifetime: learning to let go of what was taken away from us, even when we never accepted to lose it
This piece is made in responce to that is about the objects we love, the traumas we inherit, and what we learn (or don’t learn) about letting go.

ARTISTAS:
David Alonso, Anna Ametller, Ana Barrachina, Alicia Gallego, Lisa Gingles, Janne Heikkinen, Salva Mascarell, Soussan Melehi, Enrique Mestre Jaime, Rafael Romero Pineda, Humberto Valencia i SAN.
