I’m thrilled to share that my new sculptural installation “loss·y” is premiering at the 2026 SXSW XR Experience!

loss·y is an interactive installation presented through sculpture, multichannel video, and spatial audio.

The work is presented in partnership with spatial audio by the incredible @clemencedebaig_art of @unwireddancetheatre

featuring sound and music by @mattmccorkle_
movement artistry @francoisenvoranger @nikki_ortiz / @hybridmovementcompany
VFX @snayss
voice @really_em_reilly
technical production @dantroniq
production @maiasauer
partnerships @kironhd
additional 3D modeling and development @nycap3d @header_munging @_wboony_, @_gauji, Huascar Acosta, Neil Jakeman, @astro_sh_lee

So much gratitude to @jblakeneyk Hayley and the @sxsw team for bringing us along on this awesome ride! ❤️🪄❤️🪄

About loss·y

Situated at the physical-virtual threshold, loss·y memorializes corporeal passing and digital rebirth. The work intertwines animated sculptural “dances” with interactive spatial audio, inviting audiences to navigate invisible thresholds as they move.

On its surface a critique of today’s techno-society, loss·y collusively takes up digital reduction and surveillance as creative media, revealing reverence for the uncanny wonder that pulls us forward into our new, hybridized world.

loss·y is part of the Future Art and Culture programme at SXSW produced by @british_underground and Arts Council England with partnership support from the British Council. loss·y at SXSW is generously supported by British Underground @thersc and @ey_global Intelligent Realities Lab.

This work series has been made possible by @kingsartshums, @newinc, @onassis.onx, @mediaartx, and @optitrack.

See you in Austin! #sxsw #sxsw2026 #sxswFilmTV

Maquette is a hybrid physical-virtual performance combining motion capture, contemporary circus, and gaming technology to explore how the human body is perceived, interpreted, and reimagined by both the physical and the programmed eye. Orchestrated, captured, and rendered in real time, each performance is unique, providing Maquette’s audience with a never-before-seen experience. Inspired by research in figurative sculpture, design principles, and algorithmic bias, Maquette unfolds across six scenes simultaneously in physical and virtual space.

The Lumen Prize champions the innovative possibilities of technology-driven creativity. We are a leading global platform showcasing artists who are pioneering new visual languages at the intersection of art and technology. We create opportunities for Lumen artists by curating exhibitions, commissions, and events for art venues, cultural institutions, and public spaces worldwide.

In 1943, a doctor claimed to make the “perfect” woman.

He averaged the measurements of 15,000 women, made her out of plaster, and put her in Time magazine. They called her Norma. Thousands of women sent in their own measurements to see if they matched.

Not one did.

The story that emerged was “something is wrong with you.” No one is truly “normal,” of course.

@lisajamhoury built Lossy because she realized we never stopped doing this. We just moved it into software. Every app, every screen, every platform you use today was designed for the center of the bell curve. Everything outside it gets compressed away.

Her installation is a three-sided room of figures made from fractions of a second of motion-captured circus duet, looping forever. A memorial, she calls it, to the physical body in the age of the digital body.

She was finishing it when her mother died. Cheek pressed to hers. “I could have never imagined the world without my mother,” she told me. “It’s like I’ve lost an appendage.”

Vonnegut wrote “so it goes” every time he couldn’t face what had just happened. Jamhoury borrowed it. “We can die physically,” she said. “We cannot die digitally. My mom’s Facebook account is still up and going.”

Thank you to all who attended last week’s DTC workshop! 💫

Additional thanks to our thoughtful instructors @lisajamhoury & @seestrawrun and NYU Tandon at The Yard @idmnyu for the incredible space and technical support.

Highlights for us:

*Group play with sensors! We worked with 3 volunteer performers in motion capture suits, while additional participants were invited to play with “rigid bodies” (sensor tracked objects, as opposed to the suits’ flexible, free flowing tracking). This led to interactive play where artists could become light sources, steer the camera’s point of view, and more.

*Learning about how Lisa integrates storytelling into her work, specifically in her piece “Maquette.” This live performance explores the human individuality we risk losing in the rapid virtualization of everyday life. The work was partially inspired by the unsettling story of “Norma,” a statue created in the 1940s to represent the average woman, though modeled only after white women ages 21–25, excluding most women by age, race, and body type. “Maquette” explores the notion of averaging, a mechanism used in software and machine learning that has been shown to make false assumptions about individuals, especially regarding neurodiversity, race, and gender.

*For the workshop, the DTC researched various mo-cap systems and more specifically how/if AI is integrated into the OptiTrack → Unreal Engine workflow. The gist for curious minds: there are AI options in Unreal Engine, but the user can choose if they want to opt in. The standard OptiTrack → Unreal workflow does not require/use generative AI or AI assisted tracking to function. DM us if you’d like to learn about other mo-cap systems we’re researching and things we’re considering when approaching these systems.

Artist Bio: Lisa Jamhoury is a Lebanese-American artist creating live performances, installations, and physical media. She creates and directs cinematically rich, embodied experiences that recenter human agency in the digital age. Drawing from her backgrounds in contemporary circus, somatics, and experience design, Lisa brings embodied intelligence to her work as a software programmer. She moves fluidly across platforms, code bases, and tools treating technology itself as choreographic material. A specialist in motion capture from high-end studio systems to low-cost experimental tools, she translates the nuance of human movement into responsive digital environments where bodies and machines converse.

Lisa is an Interdisciplinary Fellow with the Royal Shakespeare Company and artist in residence with EY Intelligent Realities Lab. Her performance Maquette was a 2025 Lumen Prize Performance and Music finalist, and her spatial audio installation loss·y recently premiered at SXSW 2026.

What an honor to have loss·y included in the @newimages.festival distribution market in Paris!

It was honestly a tough week with family in Lebanon under intense bombardment, and the continued belligerence and uncertainty that is becoming our norm. Having the space to be in community with artists, curators, and distributors with stalwart focus on creating culture with nuance and care felt so right, and necessary.

Thank you Michele Ziegler for the generous invitation and Federico Anselmi for your kind and joyful hospitality. We need more generative, vulnerable spaces like this!

If you’re interested in including loss·y in your upcoming programming, please reach out! We’re currently planning our fall 2026 and 2027 showings.

loss·y is a walk-through immersive installation exploring what gets lost when our lives are compressed into digital form. The work turns the visitor’s body into the interface; moving through the space reveals layers of sound, projection, and 3D-printed sculpture drawn from three split seconds of a motion-captured duet.
