My consulting business now has only one client. It’s not a winery. It’s not in the United States.

Many of you know I love Baja California. Here’s how it started.

In 2016, we were searching for a new winter beach destination closer to home than Hawaii and Playa del Carmen. Damon discovered a boutique hotel in Pescadero, north of Cabo. We’d never had any interest in going to Cabo for all the reasons people went to Cabo San Lucas back then (Señor Frogs, anyone?). This place was different.

Four nights right on the Pacific, amid natural gardens and basil farms, with an organic garden restaurant steps from our room — where I spent a morning with a basket, snipping lettuce and herbs to bring back to cook with the chef. Listening to the waves and birdsong, relaxing in our cabana on the mostly empty beach. This place left an imprint on our souls.

Then the fire came. Then the rebuild. Depleted, with the pandemic slammed on top, we needed to get away — and remembered that vacation, making our way back to Baja Sur. With a few months of working remotely, we knew we wanted to build a life here.

It started with me creating my wine consulting business, which has been going extremely well despite the downturn. But renting out our house in the winter, and me flying back and forth to meet with clients, had gotten taxing. I was starting to think how amazing it would be to work with a hotel or resort in La Paz that was in my marketing wheelhouse — intentional, design-forward, culinary-centric, family-owned, grounded in gardens, plants, and open spaces.

Then one morning in April, LinkedIn fed me a job posting. 800 people applied for this role within 48 hours.

Here I am — first day in my new role, leading marketing for @masolastodossantos . There are more rooms, experiences, plants, and authentic Mexican design details than my first time here, when the hotel was in its infancy.

I’m thrilled and honored. It’s a remote role, and I’ll be starting as a consultant. But my heart has been pulling me from Northern California to Baja California for a long time. The fate of my work finally caught up.

From the beginning, @williamsselyemwinery has been grounded in a simple principle: Make the best wines, from the best grapes, from the best growers. When the fruit is this good, restraint is the craft.

Honoring this philosophy while guiding a true pioneer of Sonoma County Pinot Noir into its next visual chapter required a deliberate, thoughtful approach. Working closely with Creative Director @lisamattsonwine , we spent an entire year capturing a completely new asset library of still photography and cinematic video. Our goal was to practice that same artistic restraint, letting the authentic beauty of the vineyards, the hands of the growers, and the soul of the winemaking process speak for themselves. The resulting media refresh preserves the deep legacy of Williams Selyem Winery while elevating its digital presence for a modern era.

Armando has a way of showing you what really matters.

He walked us to a reservoir at the lowest point of Mas Olas. Guests pass it every day. Few know its story.

When it’s lush and full of life, it’s a sign that the land, the gardens, and the whole property is alive and well. That’s what it means to protect something wild and real.
