when you grow up asian american, there is a promise written into your bones. this promise says that if you work hard, harder than anyone, that success is a guarantee. all my life, i have watched my peers tear themselves into perfectly palatable bits and pieces in order to prove their worth. i, too, matched their zeal and internalized this need to be good, to make sure that no one would ever look at me and find me wanting. for us, success is the expectation. any less is a disappointment. any less and you might as well die. so, imagine my outrage when i learned that this promise is a lie. --- peerless by jiehae park directed by lisa virginia Kehoe Theatre at Fordham College at Lincoln Center April 2026 CAST: Em Cabra Koch, Zoe Manarel, Luis Paz, Alex Vargas, Avery Ash ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/FIGHT CAPTAIN: Adriana Braganza PRODUCTION STAGE MANAGER: Soraya Rastegar STAGE MANAGER: Arcus Adams PRODUCTION MANAGER: Michiho Shimasaki ASSISTANT PRODUCTION MANAGER: Ian Rios SCENIC DESIGN: Maia Kraskouskas, Charlie Mayhew, Lilly Bottlick, Ian Rios LIGHTING DESIGN: Tian Yi Cheung, Ian Englehardt, Elijah Warrington, Polina Romanets SOUND DESIGN: Elias Bernstein, Casey Schriver, Mikah Carpio COSTUME DESIGN: Audrey Collins, Bili Ramirez PROPS DESIGN: Sophia Ltaif DRAMATURGY: Rooke Taylor FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHY: Brian Muñoz Reyes INTIMACY CHOREOGRAPHY: Stephanie Sutherland SHADOW WORK CHOREOGRAPHY: Sophia Gayoso-Nordling PRODUCER: Brian Tong SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER: Maddie Medor POSTER & GRAPHIC DESIGN: Ashley Yan PHOTOGRAPHY: Kei Sugae, Lisa Virginia by @lisavirginia_
Orange Sky at Night was a show about escapism, and stepping into this world was an experience unlike any I have ever felt before. Now, months after this production, I finally feel capable of processing the undeniable amount of effort and heart each and every person on this team dedicated to this show. It was such a large undertaking, and I am so proud of what we created. This be the sailor's delight. ⚓ ORANGE SKY AT NIGHT, SAILOR’S DELIGHT Written by Maggie Needham Directed by Lisa Virginia Whitebox– Fordham Studio Theatre 2025 April 9th, 10th, & 11th FEATURING Carrie Johnson as Darcy Dukes Cristian Medeiros as Billy Bullets Alexander Shayeb as Frankenstein Sinatra Sheba Jade as The Siren Tobias Foreman as Flip Ben Miller as Johnny Appleseed Rylan Carroll as The French Person Jill Acosta as Marcy Mermaid CREATIVE TEAM Asst. World Premiere ChuanFest title ritual performance Vanishing (4.0) is a 40-minute ritual performance that functions simultaneously as both the opening and closing gesture of ChuanFest, a new performance festival initiative by the in-version ensemble. “Chuan” (船), meaning “boat” in Chinese, serves as the festival’s central metaphor—one that evokes collective passage, gathering, and departure. Vanishing (4.0) transforms the performance space into an immersive, participatory environment structured as a symbolic night-sailing boat, drawing from Chinese mythology and maritime histories. The work unfolds as a solo performance featuring a dancer who embodies the role of a “boatperson,” alongside a participatory installation that evolves over the course of the event. Upon entry, audience members “board” the space by contributing objects, texts, or fragments from their own prior creative practices. These offerings become part of the boat’s growing structure, situating the audience as both witnesses and co-builders of the performance environment. Where & When: July 9th & 10th 5:30pm | 150 1st Ave Second Floor New York, NY 10009 July 11th & 12th 4:00pm | 3AM Theatre, 9-20 35th Ave #3N, Astoria, NY 11106 —————— About ChuanFest Taking the image of 夜航船 – early-modern Chinese scholar Zhang Dai’s Night Sailing Boat, where travelers from all walks of life gathered in the dark carrying stories across water – ChuanFest unfolds as four consecutive evenings of three parts: an opening gathering centered on an interactive boat installation, a curated sequence of three intimate performances by BIPOC, AAPI artists spanning different genres and disciplines, and a communal closing ritual where audiences experience multilingual poems together. ChuanFest treats diaspora as plural and accumulative, a chorus of coexisting voices carrying one another forward. Tickets available at link in bio! by @lisavirginia_
