Good things ahead, but the adjustment is real 🎷⚓️

Staring down 6 months on board, the most dramatic change is probably the personal living space. Transitioning to fitting your life into one small room changes how you rest, how you stay organized, how you find moments to yourself, even down to how you get dressed and shower 😄👕🚿.

But we do it for the travels and getting to play music around the world is a pretty great trade - can’t wait to share our adventures with you! 🗺️ 🧭

We tallied up every country and territory we’ve been to and it came to 40! 🌍

Zooming out on the map and seeing it all in apple photos is always neat.

Every new chapter has hard days hiding in it 🤍

From the beaches of Hawaii to the icebergs of Greenland, from the mountains of Canada to tropical paradises, we’ve been lucky to see some unreal places together. And fears and sorrows still find us in every one of them.

Contract work comes and goes. Years pass not knowing what’s next. Still searching & saving for place to call our home. Some days the future feels heavy, even with the most beautiful view in front of us.

That’s the truth about life: it can look amazing and still be heavy. The ups and downs are inevitable, no matter how your life is or appears. You can be standing at the edge of the world with the person you love most and still be carrying something. Both can be true.

This reel is a collection of some of my favorite moments with my husband over the years: the epic backdrops, the random selfies, the nature shots that took our breath away. Behind every one of them was a real life, with real worries too.

So, dear future fears and sorrows: I hope you leave and don’t come back. But (let’s be honest) you will, so I hope I always remember in those moments how grateful I am for this life. 🌿

Plot twist 2: the real MVP is behind the scenes 🎸🎬

Meet mine - He drives us everywhere, books the hotels, tracks the finances, loads the gear, handles our sound, organizes our tour schedule, and somehow still makes dinner and does the laundry. 😅 You hear from me on socials mostly but none of this happens without Ty, and I’m so grateful. 💙

When the job, marriage, & creative skills are all one common theme 🎤🎸 Here’s what it looks like:

🎶 Gigs: weddings, events, venues, cruise ships; the two of us loading in, setting up, performing, tearing down
🎧 Studio days: writing, recording, and doing cute little dances between takes (technically this is more of a passion project atm)
💻 The business side: emails, bookings, and client relations
🎬 Filming and editing: every clip you see was sorted through, edited, captioned and uploaded
🚗 Travel: comes with it’s own planning, budgeting, and follow through, on land and at sea

We do actually have a couple of hobbies..

Tyler golfs ⛳️ and likes to cook 👨‍🍳 & and I enjoy making art of all kinds 🎨 and who doesn’t love watching movies 📺.

But the real hobby winner is definitely, without a doubt, hands down, eating 😌🍕🏆.

Shoutout to @slabtowncider for their epic giant chocolate cake cameo 10/10 would eat again 🍫🎂🔪

It’s not always easy, but we love getting to build this life together, and we’re so grateful for everyone who follows along 💜

Yes, sing into a towel. Here’s why 🎤

Most warm ups start with SOVT: semi-occluded vocal tract exercises. Basically, you sing through a partial blockage (like a straw) so there’s back pressure which warms up your voice without strain:

1. Singing into my hands. Cupped over my face, the little gaps work like a makeshift straw. Not technically SOVT, but same idea
2. Singing into a towel. Yes, really. Slightly less resistance, and it keeps my volume down so I’m not worried about belting off pitch while my voice wakes up (as you can tell by the coughs, it takes a bit, especially earlier in the day 😅)
3. Humming (SOVT ✔️)
4. Lip trills (SOVT ✔️)
5. Vocal slides
6. Scales
7. Melodic warm-ups

Some light stretching and you’re good to go ✅

Bonus: Quickest way to warm up:

Before live gigs, I also often 🫧bubble notes through my wide Yeti straw into the mug of water for extra resistance / vibration (I have found this to be the quickest way to warm up my voice).
