September Recap + October Hopefuls 🍂

(Plot twist, I actually did finish my first October hopeful before getting around to finishing and posting this 😂)

September was a great reading month, probably because I DNFd anything I wasn’t fully vibing with. It’s amazing how much that helps tbh. (Also Alpha’s guide was NOT a DNF it just didn’t fit on the first slide with all my finished books lol, I love that book so much)

Some of this month’s DNFs will be revisited at some point. But I had so many AMAZING reads this month. My last read of the month was Free Falling and it’s truly Lyla’s best work. I’m still thinking about it.

Q: what was your top read of September? Anything releasing in October you’re super excited for?

(And shout out to @ktrdigitaldesign for these templates! I love having the base to customize, because I’ve had so much trouble coming up with my own designs lately 🫠🫶) by @lit.lark

Thank you @macmillan.audio for the gifted audiobook of this one!

Wow, this one was a ride. The cover caught my attention, the blurb intrigued me, and the book itself hooked me from the start.

I think the concept of this one was so unique and the writing was great. The ideas in this book are so outlandish, yet at the same time seem like a real possibility. It’s an interesting convo on capitalism tbh. I really loved the MC and her wit and humor throughout. I do feel like the first half and second half kinda felt like 2 different stories, but overall this was a fantastic read and a top read of the year for me.

Narration: Natalie Naudus did a wonderful job capturing the emotion and humor of this story. She seemed to really embody our MC. She is a shining example of how wonderful solo narration is. I don’t want to give too much away about the plot because it definitely went in a direction I wasn’t expecting!

If the blurb on this one interests you, I highly recommend checking it out! I was so excited to select it as my @bookofthemonth for September so I can have a shelf trophy.

Thank you so much to @prhaudio for a gifted copy of this audiobook!

WOW wow wow. I just loved this book with my whole heart. Right from the start, I found Milo to be delightful. I just adored his character and really appreciated that he felt so different from most of the MMCs we get. I also really connected with Pru in so many ways, so right away I knew this book was gonna hit me right in the emotions. I loved Milo & Pru together, and found their personalities to really compliment each other well. Their chemistry felt so natural.

I blubbered my way through every scene that dealt with Pru’s mom and her Alzheimer’s. That topic is very personal for me, and HBY handled it so so well in this story. As much as I loved the romance in this story, I loved the way it dealt with caregiving and family so much more.

Narration:
I think this was my first time listening to Brandon Francis but I enjoyed his performance so much! He really fit the character so well imo, and gave Milo so much personality. I have listened to Victoria Connolly prior, and always enjoy her narration. Their voices worked really well together, and they really excelled in the scenes that were more emotional. Their emotions came through so vividly and felt so genuine.

This book instantly became a top read of the year for me, and I see myself rereading it many times in the future.

Library day with my girl! Did you know September is Library card sign up month?

I love having a library card (I have several) and I utilize Libby a lot, but I love taking my 2yo to the library to help foster a love for reading. She always has fun picking out her books, meeting new friends, and playing with the toys there.

Libraries offer SO MANY community resources and programs and it’s important more now than ever to support your local library however you are able to! by @lit.lark

Tattered & Torn series love 🫶

Now that the new gorgeous @sourcebookscasa covers have been revealed for my beloved Wolf Gap, I wanted to show off the beautiful SE editions I own! This Hidden Waters cover specifically, is one of my absolute favorites that I own.

When I first got addicted to @catherinecowlesauthor books, this was the first full series of hers I binged (after reading Whispers of You, and having to wait for that series to continue!) Hidden Waters and Fractured Sky remain 2 of my favorite CC books, also just favorites over all.

Swipe to see the stunning new covers! I can’t wait to add them to my Catherine Shelf (which is out of room 🫣) by @lit.lark

Thank you @dellromance and @prhaudio for the gifted copies of this book (eARC and ALC)

I have loved this series from start to finish and I truly don’t think @baileyhannahwrites could have ended this series on a better note. I have been dying for Kate and Jackson’s story since book 1 and I knew she was going to devastate us once I read the blurb.

One of Bailey’s biggest strengths in her writing (imo) is her characters. They are always so real and vulnerable, and I feel like I truly know them. So, this story was very emotional because of what they were going through, sure.. but also because I felt their love, despair, hope, etc deep in my bones like I was watching someone I truly know and love endure what Kate and Jackson were.

This was so much more than a romance book, this was a love letter to marriage. It was such a beautiful example of what love is at its core for me. It’s not flashy, it’s not theatric. It’s just steady, patient, and enduring. I cried so much reading this book and I cannot thank Bailey enough for writing such a beautiful story for us.

Narration: @jamescassidyromance was great as Jackson and he really nailed the emotions he was going through in this story. Of course @ms_brentmoor absolutely killed it as Kate. I can’t think of anyone more perfectly suited to do so. She is always able to deliver such strong FMCs flawlessly and she gave us Kate, fierce as ever.

So this was a 10/10 read for me, and don’t you ever forget: “God is a woman named Kate Wells”

I started The London Séance Society last night after grabbing it from the library, and I’m loving it. I let @the.understory.app pick my next read from my “want to read shelf” and I will 1000% be doing this again when I can’t decide what to read again!

Another Indie bookstore day 📖✨

My dad recommended @bookmarkswc and it was a HIT with Gianna. We will def be stopping by again soon. A great space with plenty of options and the staff were so friendly!

I also made it to @wc.leavesandlore after their grand opening and am obsessed. They were sold out of the specific book I wanted but I’m not mad I have a reason to stop by again soon 😏
