Common to young men is the fantasy of participating in righteous armed conflict - to defend the homeland, to overthrow tyrants, to survive after society’s collapse, etc.
Horrifically, the USSR and US governments gave young Afghan men ample opportunity to live out this fantasy over the past 35 years.
If a foreign military invaded your county, would you shoot at the troops patrolling in rural areas? Would you shoot at the ground troops if that foreign country’s aircraft bombed your cousin’s wedding/funeral or your nephew’s school/hospital? by @lite.paragon

The year is 2132 and the Supreme Imperial Court is trying a case on birthing rights. Mainstream positions held by most voters are ‘Pro Choice’ and ‘Pro Expert’.
The case is to decide whether Interstate Birthing Regulations are Constitutional. The IBR was passed 5 years ago and established a federal group of experts to determine whether each pregnancy has the right to be carried to term. Abortion mandates can only be waived if the experts issue a certificate of need stating that an additional person promotes the general welfare.
Ultimately the Supreme Court decides the IBR is Constitutional based on the interstate commerce clause and precedent set by Wickard v Filburn (1942). The court holds that birthing activities are within the scope of Congress' power to regulate because they could have an effect on interstate commerce by affecting wages and the national labor market.

Roe v Wade (1973) is never considered. by @lite.paragon

The war in Afghanistan is over but its effects remain. Some people complain about the billion$ of equipment the D.C. government left overseas, but I prefer it to rust over there so it’s not used against the citizens here.
The war in Afghanistan was a waste from the beginning. The equipment left behind is a symbol of that waste, but the man hours cost even more. No more should be spent.
Shipping military equipment over there was not rationally motivated. It was not done by an entrepreneur seeking the opportunity to benefit others. It was not done by someone trying to satisfy the wants & needs of peaceful individuals. Building and shipping equipment for the war in Afghanistan was motivated by political will and the greed of contractors who knew they could get money fresh off the printer by convincing a General to buy their equipment. Machines purpose-built to tyrannize, oppress, and destroy. I like to see those machines go unused.

Jesus Christ gave instructions for you to follow, today. He was an apolitical teacher who started a social/cultural revolution. That revolution threatened state power and was co-opted by political rulers over time. But now is a great time for members of the church to stop buying into political solutions once again. by @lite.paragon

When young guys ask me about joining the military, my advice is to avoid the institution entirely.

Reject collectivism, especially collectivism based on statism. The world became less free during the 20th century thanks to nationalist attitudes.
During this discussion, the neocon Ayaan Hirsi Ali also tried leveraging people’s belief in grand narratives about “civilizational conflict” to advocate for the US government’s continued involvement in the Middle East.
