new name card. finally feel like this is mine, integrating my eclectic background in systems thinking, behavioural psychology, and traditional Chinese literati thoughts, alongside self-taught practices in photography and bookmaking. there are things that I’ve loved for a long time - one would be typography - how texts appear visually on a canvas. I wanted to study Graphic Design in university but ended up doing Computer Science (let’s not guess why); there was that one module where we could code to make graphics. years and years went by, and text would not leave me alone, no matter how much I wanted it to. I would have the urges to write, and I would resent my writing. I would try out one format of writing, and I would rebel the structure of that form. I would take what I write apart and I would look back at what I once wrote and be surprised by it. I sit in front of my desk every morning and somehow, I just start typing, yet I’ve never told anyone about it. texts, are like music notes, I hear the music of them, singing in my brain, like summer cicadas whispering to my eardrums, asking me to note their beats on pages. maybe after all this time, I will once again, face all my writings. I will face the anxiety of not making sense, the fear of being judged by the way I articulate, the moments when they come rushing to me as though I’m being possessed by some spirit, and maybe, eventually, I can be brave enough to accept my very own way of telling stories. by @little.rice
‘Sunny Side Back’ photobook exhibition by Ji Xiang  Artist: Ji Xiang (@jason_x.j) Curator: Michelle Chan (@litte.rice)  Presented: at 1:1 Studio (@121bookstudio) During cold sunny days in Hong Kong, the public open space under an office tower in Central turns into a sun-bathing plaza at noon, where office workers stand silently with their backs to the sun. The Sunny Side Back, the photobook of the same title, is placed inside 1:1 studio, accompanied with elements translated from the public space in Central, transforming the studio into a constructed urban space. The installation explores the multiple viewing relationships between subject and camera, print and viewer, as well as semantic shifts between 2D and 3D during image making. It invites viewers to question their own perspective of looking: how we see, what we notice, and how our position shapes what becomes visible. Time：13:00 - 18:00* (*Tue - Thu by appointment only, please DM @jason_x.j at least one day in advance 星期二至四期間如欲參觀須至少提前一日預約@jason_x.j) 地點 Venue：1:1 studio (inside @wurearea), Unit 707, 7/F, Block B Po Lung Centre 11 Wang Chiu Road Kowloon Bay 九龍灣宏照道11號寶隆中心B座7樓707室 WURE AREA內 1:1 studio  展覽活動 Exhibition Programmes (活動預約 registration link in bio)  開幕日及藝術家分享  Opening Reception & Artist Talk: 日期 Date：14.11.2026  時間 Time：13:00 (at 1:1 studio); 15:00 - 16:00 (at Lam Wah Street Playground 九龍灣臨華街游樂場) 攝影書簽售 Book Signing: 日期 Date：14.11.2026  時間 Time：16:00 ”曬背“及攝影散步 ‘Sunny Side Back’ experience and Photo Walk: 日期 Date：15.11.2026  時間 Time：13:00-14:00 地點 Location：Open space under The Center, 99 Queen’s Road Central 皇后大道中99號中環中心地下 by @little.rice
In July, I began making this little zine about 《1:1 studio》, a space that has evolved into its own identity over time 🌿. It started as an experimental project, stemming from a question I had been carrying: Can a book be read differently when it is placed within a space—when the objects, spatial elements, and mood we curate, together with the encounters arise there—become part of the reading? Later, it expanded to include “pop-up reading room”: a third space for slow encounters and attentive listening to books, and then “coaching creatives”—an offering of my time, curiosity, and presence for anyone who feels called to create, explore an idea, and move it towards a form; to be a sounding board and reflect back how a work might want to emerge. As I worked on the zine, I discovered it was really an exercise for me to discern what I fundamentally want to create and offer through this space. One day, I discovered a quote I had noted down: 「人人都有一雙藝術家的眼睛。 “Everyone has a pair of artist’s eyes. No matter whom you have admired or taken as your teacher, in the end you must return to yourself. Art has never been distant from us; it is we who have drifted from our true selves. In the city, we first lose our eyes—and then we lose everything.” Shih Tsuo-cheng And then I felt: this is it. This awe that rings in my heart as I read the words again 🥹. I want to create a space for myself, as well as for others, to belong and return to ourselves amidst the noise of the world: to play, create, and experiment—nurturing the conditions for our uniquely beautiful souls to radiate and shine. I picture this space as a floating blob of water 🫧, nourishing myself and others through merging and releasing, while always returning to the source from which it began: ourselves. 📒 digital ver. @ link in bio *huge thanks to @gorbriel for helping me tease out the bits and pieces; to all collaborators and allies who have supported this space. Special thanks to @iwcpaint for allowing 1:1 studio to coexist alongside & within @wurearea. Look forward to all the possibilities, and to seeing what emerges! 🌱✨⚡️ by @little.rice

storytelling through mono-screenprinting and bookbinding @marbleprintclay thoroughly enjoyed facilitating a space—or perhaps a field—for storytelling in book form: setting up conditions in which mono-screenprinting became a method for printing content, and bookmaking became a method for shaping and telling stories. Within this field, participants were invited to bring their own playfulness and creativity to their ideas, allowing each story to unfold uniquely in book form. I was also pleasantly surprised and happy to have @kithtsang join as a special participant, embodying “the artistic eye” (a concept shared by Shih Tsuo-cheng) in the ways we image books as forms. Thank you to everyone who came and made these stories 🫶🏻 很享受創造讓大家以書的形式進行說故事的空間或「場域」：以「單版絲網印刷為印製內容的方法；書籍製作為組織和述說故事的方式」為創作條件 。

Quietude of June and July 🌬️🍃 do you listen, to the water vapour moving through the air? do you listen, to what the whispers of the leaves as they stretch towards the sun? do you listen, to the way the wind greets us—on our face, on our skin—on how it carries our salts, at the same time, adding dirt and dust? do you listen, to how our voice vibrates in our chest, travels up through our mouth, and projects out into the world in subtle collaborations with the birds, the people, the city? do you listen, to the spaces between words spoken to one another, the pauses, the longings, the hesitations, the excitement, the fears, the insecurities, the quiet vibrancy? what is essential is invisible to the eye, the quietude of listening 🎧 by @little.rice

Thank you @hongkongphotobookfest and @pbb.lab for the invite to join the discussion on (The Mystery of Book Awards: What Makes a Good Photobook?) @weimingmingwmm with @papermatter.aba. The moderated questions and generated conversations were truly inspiring, the afterthoughts and reflections have kept churning in my mind that wouldn’t leave me alone 🤯😵🥸. For a while, I’ve been gathering these observations, slowly connecting and mapping out the photobook ecosystem in Hong Kong and how it’s currently functioning. Here, finally, inspired by @yinchin2046’s presentation, I’ve articulated its first version with diagrams. I’m sure this isn’t complete and will need revising in many ways as it continues to evolve, but I felt an urge to process these mental components into something I can view, revise, and refine over time. Hopefully, sharing this will also bring us together to explore how each of us contributes to this ecosystem, so it can grow and become sustainable 🌱. by @little.rice
