#rufoushummingbirds winter at 10K' in Mexico and come up to the PNW to breed. In damp western Washington, they can be found in various habitats. #moss and #lichen are favorite building materials. Their nests are about the size of a halved walnut. The female continues to build on the nest as the chicks grow. This is this females second brood. She rebuilt on top of old nest.

This #chestnutbackedchickadee was not aware that she lifted my spirits today. We continue to have the natural ups and downs of adjusting to our new world - new city, new house & neighborhood, new neighbors . It's definitely tougher at our age . So like our feathered friend who is enjoying one of our old birdhouses made by our friend, the late Seattle Bird Lady, we continue to "nest".

Maybe it's light reflection, but I like to think the beak of the #whitecrownedsparrow is bluish from being 'drunk' on all the #lupine. The glorious field of Lupine were across from a field of #rhubarb . It's the first time I've seen so much Rhubarb, or Lupine in one place. taken in Knutson Farms Inc by @littledewato

Is it this #marshwren entering one of its nests? Males build multiple nests and breed with more than one female. They also destroy eggs and nesting of other Marsh Wrens and marsh nesting birds. Tiny and aggressive. Thanks @panamainian_01_ for pointing out the nest! by @littledewato

#doublecrestedcormorant during their breeding season they develop small, curly, stringy tufts of feathers -black or white - one over each eye. They are temporary, appearing only on adults during Spring mating season to attract mates. taken in Olympia, Washington by @littledewato
