They say it takes a village to raise a child, so we built one. Welcome to The Whole Child Collective, a collaborative 5-week holiday series by Little Cottage and Little Nest.

We are stepping outside the traditional classroom to focus on mindful tinkering, essential life skills, and real-world community expeditions right here in Kuching. Whether you join us for a single curated week or the entire journey from Nov 16 to Dec 18, it is designed for deep, meaningful engagement.

Spaces are strictly capped at 10 per week to maintain an intimate environment.

Children have no vote, no policy seat, and no civic platform. Yet their growing lungs carry the heaviest cost of our skies every single year.

Haze cannot simply be an annual season we accept. For a developing child, one hazy year is already one too many.

Under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child holds the fundamental right to health, outdoor play, and to have their voice taken seriously on matters affecting their world (Articles 12, 24, and 31).

Through The Blue Sky Project, we paused with our little ones and asked:
“When the sky is blue, I want to…”

We scribed their raw words unedited, sealed with a single inked thumbprint: their personal signature as young citizens calling for clear skies, now and every year to come.

Sarawak Preschool International Convention 2026 reminded us of the power of shared vision in the early years. Immense appreciation to the Ministry for providing this platform, and heartfelt gratitude to our fellow preschool and childcare leaders, teachers, and peers for the rich dialogue on honoring childhood.

The most grounding full-circle moment was hosting Dr. Raella Kahuroa at Little Cottage and Little Nest right after the conference. Walking through our environments together and diving deep into early childhood practice and child-led spaces was a masterclass in itself.

Onward, with renewed clarity and purposeful practice. 💫

Music is pure magic, especially when shared up close. ✨ We had the absolute delight of welcoming cellist Benny Chen (Teacher Amber’s very talented brother!) to Little Nest and Little Cottage.

The children were completely spellbound as the rich, warm tones of the cello filled the room. There is nothing quite like live acoustic music to spark wonder and quiet curiosity in little minds. 🎻🤍

With the hazy skies lingering, keeping our little ones cool, comfortable, and deeply hydrated is top of mind. 🌿💧

A heartfelt thank you to Carus Eco Plants for supplying our Little Nest and Little Cottage teachers and children with fresh, pure coconut water!

During hazy days, dry throats and sluggishness creep in quickly. Pure coconut water is nature’s isotonic drink—packed with potassium and magnesium to restore cellular hydration naturally.

🥥 How much should little ones drink?
A little goes a long way! Because pure coconut water is nutrient-dense, here is a healthy daily guide:

Ages 1–3 (Toddlers): 60 ml – 120 ml (about ¼ to ½ cup, or diluted with a splash of water)
Ages 4–6 (Preschoolers): 120 ml – 180 ml (about ½ cup to ¾ cup)

With a little imagination, our children sailed into a world of stories, laughter and adventure. Through drama and play, they explored, expressed themselves and discovered just how far their imagination could take them. ⚓️💛

Setting sail on Day 2 of the Hatchery Workshop by Little Nest! Today we visited Sunrise Kiddy House, turning the space into a bustling shipyard.

The children threw themselves into carrying logs to construct their vessel, picking up authentic pirate talk along the way. Seeing the whole crew beam while shouting "Aye, aye, Captain!" was pure magic.

Special thanks to Amber for welcoming our crew so warmly and supporting our young pirates.

To plant a seed of wonder and stewardship in a child is a rare gift.

Our children stepped into the Sugar & Rice exhibition to discover how deeply the earth, our farmers, and the food that sustains us are bound together.

Meeting Catriona Maddocks brought those living stories to light. Inspired by her Jamin art, little hands dipped toy tractors in vibrant paint, rolling textures and patterns across paper to create their very own pieces celebrating the soil and harvest.

Catriona, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your warmth, gentle guidance, and the generosity of Catama Borneo sparked a genuine reverence for the land that will stay with our young learners for a lifetime.

Ahoy, mateys! Curtains up on Day 1 of our drama week! 🎭🦜

Today, Hatchery Workshops by Little Nest kicked off the high seas adventure alongside the wonderful little buccaneers from Tadika Eco Lodge. Led by the brilliant Laura Millet, our recruits dove headfirst into Pirate School to test their sea legs, master dramatic expressions, and work together to see if they had what it takes to join the pirate crew.

A huge salute and heartfelt thank you to the wonderful Ms Eileen, our finest first mate, for anchoring today’s voyage with so much warmth and spirit. What beautiful recruits you have.
