🧠Divergent Mind: Thriving in a world that wasn’t designed for you

this book started as a general interest in people who feel deeply or are extremely empathetic. My interest in sociology and psychology often peak when these fields intersect with the realities of modern society. It’s crazy how misinformation or lack of information can shape our experiences. That’s kind of what this book explores, how social-cultural norms influence perceptions of people with *neurological disabilities* Topics also include sensitivity, autism, synthesisia, ADHD and SPD, & through them how different avenues of life (ex. Work/School) might look like for them with tips on how to manage!
✨bonus: it primarily draws knowledge women experiences, giving insights into the unique challenges faced by women with neurological differences/in medicine.✨

A key take away is that this book offers visibility to women and others who navigate a world that often overlooks their unique needs. It is a good guide into this particular field. by @littlevreads

On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong

I appreciated it more the second time :D
The writing style is different than what I typically would gravitate towards. It’s written in a form of a letter, to Little Dog’s (Vietnamese American) illiterate mom.
I’ve read this twice. 2nd time was when I read it for a class, which encouraged us to explore the numerous themes, I simply cannot say it was the same experience (duh 🙂lol). I knew the stories, but not what was being said between the lines as well. I truly appreciated how well Vuong depicts heteronormativity in society and how it can make it difficult to be your authentic self when it doesn’t fit what you see. There are other themes such as family, love, trauma, and abuse.

okay I understand the hype for crying in H-mart now! I bought this because it was a rec from✨@books_unbound✨ in one of their episodes :) I knew nothing of the author at the time but I’m a fan now!

I was able to take a lot from this memoir- specifically when Zauner referred to her mother & their relationship. In this aspect alone, so much is explored: grief, love, cultural appreciation, & forgiveness.
I caught myself resonating with a lot of the points that the author made when illustrating her mother’s complexities. I tabbed so many passages & really took some time to let them all sink in.
I remember being a little hesitant to read this because I knew it was going to force me to reflect on that particular aspect of my life. Im honestly glad I was able to finally read this beaut of a book. Definitely recommend🤍 by @littlevreads

🚧Okay, okay if you haven’t read ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE please stop what you’re doing and read it 🚧

Now if you have read it, or if you’re still reading (smh) this book is just as beautiful as the first one! (maybe even more) so many things to love about it: the writing(!), character development, love, grief, love, & bravery🤍🤍

We follow Aristotle and Dante’s new relationship through Ari’s POV. It’s the ‘80s and to be like them, to be homosexuals, is not only “unnatural” but dangerous. This makes loving each other that much more difficult.

I have and probably always will hold a very special place in my heart for Aristotle and Dante. Their story is so heartwarming and beautiful. I first read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe when I was in high school & re-read it again this year. Five years waiting for more of them & it is beyond lucky for me to have found this book, Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World, when I did💙 by @littlevreads

✨SEPTEMBER✨🤞

Honestly I haven’t been reading lately but now that I’ve settled into my new place I hope to change that!

I did manage to read five books last month so there’s that! I believe two were for #witmonth & another was for a book club which was really awesome @sadtwentiesbookclub

I finished an audiobook this morning so we’re off to a great start! taken in Big Sur Higway - California by @littlevreads

Hello! I decided to read Haben for #disabilitypridemonth 💙& so far off to a great start.

Haben is a beautiful memoir of a Deafblind woman who defied the odds against her. She didn’t stop there though, she graduated from Harvard law & became an agent of change! She is amazing & her passion for advocacy is inspiring.

It is a memoir, so this book tells anecdotes from different parts of her life in each chapter.

She uses this memoir to touch on topics like how she navigates through the world, identify/culture, & ofc advocacy.
Please read! It’s a fantastic read & relatively short 😅 by @littlevreads
