Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined finding a love as imperfectly perfect as ours. You are the definition of what unconditional love is - My best friend, confidant, soul mate, and lover, all beautifully combined into one.

Prior to meeting you, I sat in meditation and prayer for 30 minutes a night, every night. I released insecurities, imagining putting all my fears into a box and handing it to the universe. Once the box was handed over, I imagined your touch running through my hair as I laid my head on your lap. I imagined you working on the garden and planting flowers in the back yard. I imagined your hand in mine as we watched our future kids play on the beach. I could never see your face, but I knew you were out there…I could feel you.

Then I met you and I remember looking up to the stars and asking the universe, “You made this happen this quickly?!” I couldn’t believe the work we had both put in, led our souls to meet in perfect timing and alignment. The fact that my journey and yours, led us to each other still blows my mind. Because of you, I have a newfound trust in life…that control means fear and you have to let it all go so the universe can do her thang. She knows what she is doing through every heartbreak, loss, and sadness…She led me to you.

I’m reminded of The Most Beautiful Thought by Forrest Blakk. I would listen to it on repeat on hard days before meeting you:

The most beautiful thought
Is that maybe each and every heartbreak endured
Was merely a bridge to one another
Or that perhaps the love I had found behind the eyes
Of the strangers I had met along my path
Were but reminders that I was one step closer to you
My love, how I have yearned for you
And the way in which I see you and feel you
This pulsating beat trapped underneath my ribs
It beats for you and you alone
Is that not proof revealing itself?

I recently walked away from a long-term friendship after being told I couldn’t be accepted for who I am. That my sexuality is a “choice,” and that God didn’t make me this way. I was then told I was “loved.” But let’s be clear: condemnation and love cannot coexist. Love does not come with conditions or the expectation that someone deny who they are in order to be worthy of it.

My identity is not up for debate. I am not something to be analyzed and I am not up for interpretation like scripture. I know who I am, and I refuse to let anyone else define me.

Pride matters because too many of us are still expected to justify our existence. It is the refusal to make yourself smaller for someone else’s comfort. It is choosing authenticity over approval, even when that choice comes with loss.

With that to say, this month, I’m especially grateful for the people who never asked me to change. Who showed up with love, consistency, and acceptance without conditions. That is what real love looks like.
