If there is one thing I want to teach my children in this world, it’s to not be afraid of the dark.

For the past week, our sweet daughter has asked us to close her closet door because of the monster inside. To be honest, we didn’t give it much attention and just rolled with it—assuring her there was no monster, that she was safe, and proceeding to close the door.

But a few days ago, Uli decided to investigate it a bit more and asked her some questions, like, “Does the monster make a noise?”

And lo and behold, it did.

“Squeak, squeak, crunch, crunch.”

We live on a farm. We knew exactly what that sound meant. 😂

Uli then said, “Show me where that noise comes from,” and she pointed to the top left corner of her closet, where there was a shelf. Uli climbed up to look and discovered baby mice droppings.

We were equally amazed by our daughter’s discovery skills as we were horrified that she had been scared of this little mouse for so long.

And it made me realize that had we been better at teaching her to address the darkness, instead of simply closing it off, she would not have been living in fear of the monster inside her closet for so long.

A tiny mouse is nothing to be scared of. In fact, every time we go to the pet store, that’s what my girls ask for. 😂 But when taken out of a controlled environment and left to the ruins of our imagination—that place that fabricates and cultivates images and ideas between slivers of “squeaks and crunches”—there, monsters are birthed.

And it makes me think about how often in my own life I’ve refused to discover the dark, to explore the “caves” of my life because of fear of the unknown.

How many mice live in the closets of my mind that have manifested into monsters too big, too aggressive to approach?

And so there they lie.

But you’ve gotta stay brave to find the treasures in the cave.

And what would it look like to approach those caves with the bravery of the Lion, who moves into the darkness like He is the one to be feared? What would it look like to know that no matter where we go or what we discover, He would be by our side?

I’ve been quietly enjoying this sacred season of maternity leave, tucked away with my little family. But I’d be lying if I said I haven’t missed touring Becoming a Lion—sharing my book, my art, playing music, and getting to talk with so many of you about the stories within its pages.

Funny enough, I think I’ve found myself living one of them.

In Becoming a Lion, I write about cave seasons—those seasons when life leads us somewhere new and unfamiliar. The deeper we go, the less we can see what’s ahead, and the more we’re asked to loosen our grip on what we thought we knew.

Motherhood—especially postpartum—feels a little like that to me.

My world has become smaller for a season. Quieter. My days and nights look completely different than they did just a few months ago. There is so much I cannot control, and so much I’m learning as I go.

And yet, caves hold treasures too.

There are parts of ourselves we meet only in the dark. For me, it’s in the 3 a.m. feeds, when nothing else seems to exist but this little lion in my arms. And there, in her presence, I find new strength. New dependence. New ways of seeing. And a treasure I never would have found had I not said yes to this new invitation in my life.

So for now, I’m here. In this beautiful little cave season, delighting in its treasures. 🤍

And missing my book just a little, too. 🦇🦁

Last show felt like magic.

We crossed into 30 weeks🤰🏻and I decided to celebrate the only way I know how — by playing my final show of the season before this little one arrives.

By 30 weeks, babies hearing is beautifully refined — able to recognize familiar voices, respond to music, even distinguish the rise and fall of different pitches. What better way to welcome our little lion into the world of sound than letting them hear their mama’s music — songs born from the journey to each of my little lions🦁

And oh, they were moving 🤘🏼
Rocking out the whole night.
A tiny, wholehearted dancer already.

It has been a quiet dream of mine to play a show with a baby in my womb — to feel life and rhythm intertwined, heartbeat beneath harmony. And over these past 30 weeks of touring my book, this little one has already been along for so much — concerts, book signings, late-night writing sessions, markets, events, long drives, and songs sung under stage lights.

I am so deeply grateful to every person who came out, bought a book, sang along, shared your stories, and roared like a Lion beside us this season. Touring my book alongside my music has been one of the most precious and meaningful seasons of my life. But the biggest to @danieldecriscio and @mishagolin who made these shows possible by bringing the music and stories to life!

And now, as one chapter gently closes, I’m equally excited to pause… to make room for the next chapter growing quietly within me. From turning pages to counting tiny kicks — what a beautiful transition this is already becoming.

More shows next season. 🤘🏼

✨ The Becoming a Lion launch party was beyond magical—truly exceeding every expectation! ✨

We were blown away by the incredible turnout, with families and friends coming dressed as all the characters—Lion, Bat, Moth, Wolf, Tortoise and even a possum—and filling the night with so much joy and celebration.

I had the honor of reading excerpts from the book, and acompo it with a song with a full band that brought the story to life. Afterwards, the celebration continued with book signings, photo shoots, and exploring my art prints and other merchandise from our Live As Lions shop—all designed to inspire you to live wild and free.
