Heads up, Clays Mill Road travelers!

🚦 A new pedestrian crossing signal has been installed at the crosswalk near Jessie Clark Middle School.

The signal is dark until a pedestrian presses the button to cross. Then, the lights will flash yellow & turn red so vehicles know to stop for pedestrians. This will improve safety & make it much easier for pedestrians to cross Clays Mill.

🚗 Drivers, look for the new signal & always be aware of pedestrians.
🚸 Pedestrians & walkers headed to school, press the button & wait for the “walk” sign to cross Clays Mill. Only cross at the crosswalk. A diagram of a traffic signal and people in a crosswalk. Text: the pedestrian crossing at Jessie Clark middle is getting an upgrade! by @livegreenlex

What if driving wasn’t an option?

For many people, that’s not a one-week challenge, it’s everyday life.

Week Without Driving, taking place October 1–8, is an opportunity to better understand the transportation barriers many people face and to consider what it takes to build a community where everyone can get where they need to go safely and with dignity.

In this video, Chrissie shares a glimpse of her experience. You can read her full story through the link in our bio.

Then, consider taking the Week Without Driving challenge October 1–8. Whether you walk, bike, roll, take transit or simply swap one trip, every experience offers a new perspective.

🥉 Bronze #GreenCheckLex member @intlbookproject is an organization built on sustainability principles! Their mission to redistribute gently-used books to communities in need is the exact kind of reuse we love to see. Books that can't be used are recycled instead of landfilled.

Green Check has allowed them to branch out into other environmental initiatives, too. Through energy improvements, they were able to reduce their electric bill almost 40% from June to July, while the average daily temperature was the same between the two months. Wow!
