More from @sloanwaranch story with @nudenite

Sloan’s reminder: it’s okay for things not to be for everyone. Don’t talk yourself out of what you want to put into the world because of what people might think.

Keep it moving.

Three lessons I’ve been sitting with that I wanted to share.

1. The unknown is kind of the whole point. Learn to embrace and accept uncertainty.

2. Inclusion doesn’t have to be this huge gesture. Be the reason someone feels welcomed and valued in a crowded room.

3. Let everyone be wrong about you. Do your thing and always be yourself. by @livethehour

Sloan Waranch is the director of Nude Nite, an art show that celebrates the human body through work that’s vulnerable, bold, and unapologetically different.

@sloanwaranch shares four powerful pieces of advice from her time running @nudenite , the hardships she’s faced, the lessons she’s learned, and what it’s taught her about becoming.

1. Vulnerability Is Part Of The Artistic Act. When you create something, you’re putting a piece of yourself out there, your taste, your perspective, your point of view. You can’t control how people perceive it. Have the courage to put something into the world that might not be received how you imagined.

2. Your Pieces Are Your Power. When we think about pieces, they’re usually sharp and broken. But truly, the most incredible, beautiful things in the world are a culmination of some sort of hardship. Take your pieces and the things that have shaped you and channel it into something for the world.

3. Keep It Moving. We tend to talk ourselves out of creating, building, and making things. A lot of that has to do with the outside noise. You have to be your biggest champion and your biggest believer. Don’t talk yourself out of putting something out there because you’re afraid of what people will think, you’ve got to keep it moving.

4. Dream Without Barriers. Imagination and dreaming are really important. Allow yourself to dream and imagine without barriers, see what you come up with, and work backwards from there. by @livethehour

At 12 years old, I stumbled across @shane_koyczan ‘s TED talk, “To This Day,” a spoken-word poem about his lived experience of bullying in his youth. I was so inspired by Shane’s story, and even more inspired that he had the courage to take the stage and share his message with the world.

So I signed up for my 6th grade talent show and wrote a speech of my own, taking a stand against bullying and sharing the power of kindness.

Since that day, I’ve kept walking into the rooms I wanted to run from, and somewhere along the way, I learned these uncomfortable, nerve-wracking places are where the growth happens.

It takes courage to speak up in a silent room, to walk in the opposite direction of the crowd, to stand up when everyone’s sitting, to advocate for what you believe in.

Choose to do it anyway.

2 summers ago, I dreamed up the idea of Live the Hour.

The thought of building something to empower and make a difference in others’ lives ended up making all the difference in my own.

Here’s to showing up for your dreams even when they feel far off, and pursuing more of what challenges and inspires you. by @livethehour
