September is Suicide Prevention Month & after having my own battle, attempts & now testimony, it’s only right I help raise awareness & pass the baton of Hope.

We talk a lot about community, but it doesn’t mean much if we’re not truly connecting.

Connecting enough to notice when the smile painted on isn’t real. Enough to ask & ask again. Enough to truly SEE the person, not just the mask they wear when they have to be “on.”

Don’t dismiss someone because they’re showing up, laughing, achieving, functioning, etc. They may still be struggling in ways you may never see & they may never say unless they’re asked.

This is your reminder that suicidal doesn’t have a look & sometimes truly being seen can make all the difference.

That’s my story & I’m rocking with it.

Jackson fans… what would you have done in this moment? 😭👂🏾👇🏾

Between the warmest hug from @jackiejackson5 & @marlondavidjackson5 saying “I saw you!” after remembering me from the crowd, my intrusive thoughts took over, idk! 😭😂

I will never forget sharing this moment with members of such a legendary family whose music, but most importantly, whose story has inspired me to be the best version of myself God called me to be. 💛

Music that had a message. Music that made you feel something & want to make a change. Music that made you “boogie” & “shake your body down to the ground.”

They don’t make them like the Jackson Family anymore & I’m soooo grateful I got the chance to experience their greatness & give them their flowers in person.

I will never forget this day. 🥹 Little LaToria is still fanning out & God is so kind!!

Rest in peace Michael & Tito! 💛 My only regret is that I was too young to see the whole family in action, but I’m forever grateful for the legacy left behind!!

You got an email from Voyage Dallas ON YOUR BIRTHDAY that YOUR story has been published and the Lord reminded you that it was all necessary and you’re worth it. All things truly are working together for your good.

Everything you’ve always known was in you, even back then—you’re finally walking in it.

You’ve had a mic in your hand, journals & sketch books full of stories, melodies in your mouth & a huge heart for people as far back as you can remember. You forgot who you were and what joy you bring to this world for a little while, but you fought for your light and you found it again. Now you get to let it shine before men so they may see your good works & glorify the Father.

Now you’ve freed yourself to speak up and inspire everyone you encounter. All who are open.

Growing up, we learned in science class that energy can’t be created nor destroyed, it can only be transferred. I’d like to think that’s true for humans too.

The moment I spotted The Jacksons Family Home, I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I just rode around the block a few times and cried.

Partly because the person we were all there to celebrate is gone. But also thinking about all of the memories this family made inside of that house and how so much of their love eventually filled our own homes through their music, movies, home videos, books, etc.

They sacrificed and gave the world soooo much since they were just children.

Michael Jackson may be gone physically, but his energy 10/10 is still very much at home.

You can feel it on this street. You can feel it in the hearts of his fans. You can feel it in the way the locals welcomed us with open arms, in the way we sang and danced together even through the rain and in all of the stories people shared about The Jackson Family.

He left his mark. They left their mark. I don’t think such a legacy will ever die!

I know it’s been said that Michael didn’t really celebrate his birthday, but I can’t help but believe he would have found so much joy in seeing people from all over the WORLD arriving at his childhood home as strangers and leaving feeling like one big family.

That’s what the Jacksons do to us, lol. They always promoted joy, love and boogie. 🤪🕺🏾🪩

That’s the magic MJ was always talking about.

That magic is simply love.

What a legacy.

It’s tradition now and I can’t wait to go back.

For years, my friends and I use to joke that I had ADHD due to some of my habits and patterns.

It wasn’t until I went back to college in my late 20s that I started realizing something was very different in me than others around me. I knew I was capable, I cared and wanted to succeed… so why was I struggling so bad to do the work? Even outside of school.

Failing multiple courses, experiencing burnout and other life challenges led me to finally finding the right therapist for me. She stopped me during a session and asked, “Have you ever been tested for ADHD?”

It hit waaay different coming from a mental health professional than my friends. 🫠😭😂 Thankfully, I had already been doing research about some of my thoughts and behaviors, praying and yes… going to TikTok University to see if anyone else struggled the way I did. 😂

After a few of assessments with a psychiatrist, I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD.

This diagnosis is not my identity, but it has given me relief and language for things I’ve experienced since childhood. It’s releasing the shame of acknowledging that I’m different and will have to do things differently than the neurotypical person.

This is my personal experience, not medical advice and not me saying that struggling with these things automatically means someone has ADHD.

My hope is to create a safe space for those who are diagnosed while also spreading awareness for those who may have never considered that there could be an explanation behind their struggles.

I’m unlearning 28 years of shame and learning how to work WITH my brain instead of against it. 💛 Yes, that has come with soooo much grief, but I can truthfully say I’m enjoying the process and I’m committed to the journey.

I turned 29 on August 13th. 16 days later, I was in the Jacksons’ home state celebrating The King of Pop’s birthday on August 29th. I realized Michael was 29 years old when he dropped the BAD album, so I KNEW I had to recreate one of his iconic looks from this era for the Jackson partaaaay! 🥳🎉

Today is actually the anniversary of the album’s release sooooo…

I love art that tells a story, but it hits different when you can actually see yourself in it. That’s why I instantly connected with Kalika Rose’s work! 🎨✨

Her series on “character flaws” highlights the labels and stereotypes women are often given (thirsty, daddy issues, trophy wife, gold digger, etc.) and transforms them into something beautiful.

What will forever stick with me is the way both she and her art spoke about womanhood, identity and the pressure of constantly being defined by the world around us. All I could think was “God gives beauty for ashes,” and that’s exactly what He inspired her to do through this series. 🫶🏾✨
