I was honored again this year to participate in a long tradition in Mni Sóta Makoce—Dakota for the land where the water reflects the skies. During the manoominike giizis—the wild rice moon in Ojibwe—I spent a couple days harvesting manoomin. I spent six hours on the water each day knocking rice into the bottom of the canoe. It always feeds my spirit to be on the water, and it feels even more sacred to connect with the land in a symbiotic way, harvesting food that will nourish me and at the same time helping plant seed for the seasons still to come. I have close to 17lbs of rice that I harvested with my own hands. I’m grateful for the experience and connection to the land and my friend Joshy who keeps inviting me along ❤️ by @livingeverydogsdream

At a time in my life when I found it hard to keep living, when grief consumed most of my heart and my mind, Outward Bound happened. The Boundary Waters happened. I found myself in Ely, MN. Something I could have never predicted. My love that I lost, Chase, he guided me there. It was his sanctuary and where he took his last breaths and ate his last blueberries. Outward Bound and the Boundary Waters became my home. They breathed life back into me. It’s where friendships are forged, adventures are had, lessons are taught, and lessons are learned. It’s where sleddogs are born, where they play, where they run. It’s where babies are raised and stories are told. It’s sanctuary to those that come and every person that passes through, it becomes a part of them. Truly a part of them. People don’t forget what they felt and what they did there. It’s all in danger of being lost, being destroyed. Congress pushed legislature through that will allow mining that will destroy it. The senate hasn’t yet. Your love, compassion, gentleness, and laughter were some of the most beautiful experiences I have had in this life. You remain deep in my heart.
