My watery ways are ALL consuming ♋️🦀💦🛁

What a gift and a curse it is to love so deeply - a curse I’d choose against and again.
There has been a lot of fear, but there’s been a lot MORE sweetness. Love like this - when I can feel my heart bursting, almost cracking to make room for even more.

Here’s a glimpse of only the sweetest bits. I’m thrilled to say that there is so much more - naturally unable to capture in a photograph, unable to really understand through a pocket world.

I look at these photos and think about my great good luck in this world - amidst all I’ve lost, all the times I cursed “luck,” because I had “none” and I think of all that has hurt me. But, I am one of the lucky humans who has a warm place to rest my head, I do not go hungry, my seeds have not been destroyed, the soil I grow my food in is thick and nutrient dense and safely grows all I choose to cultivate, my loved ones have access to medical care, my skin color gets me access and provides me an ease in the world that I’ve never not known, the creatures I love never go hungry, I don’t have have to wonder if evil will rain from the sky again tonight and if I’ll make it to tomorrow. THAT is luck. THAT is privilege.

Can you see all that you have?

I so often feel like a “failure,” because of all the things I have NOT accomplished rather than thinking about all the things I have. My mind goes to the things I don’t have, will never have, the goals that feel intangible, and so one. This year is for appreciation and acceptance. This year is my high-femme, fine-ass auntie year and I’m here for it all. by @livlongtheqween

My farming journey started at Harlow Farm when I was 17 years old. A lot of the men who were there then still work there now. They became my mentors and teachers just by working alongside them daily. They were there on my good days, singing in the fields, sharing meals, talking late into the evening after a long day of work, dancing and giving me a very hard time for not knowing how to play dominos. They were there on my bad days, always with a shoulder to lean on and never letting me leave the farm in a bad mood. After seven years I left Harlow’s to move to Colorado and whenever I came home to see family, visiting the guys at the farm was a top priority. They became family and it with them was home.

Since then, life has been long and I’ve worked on many farms, but the three that have my heart are Harlow’s, Poverty Lane Orchards and Sweetland; they are farms that rely on Jamaican H2A workers, farms where I’ve met some of my best friends, farms that serve our community members, farms that are made up of OUR community.

Poverty Lane Orchards came into my life through love and has allowed me to live and work alongside a group of Jamaican H2A workers who I can’t image home without. They consoled me through some of my greatest losses, they’ve brought me food when I’ve been sick, they’ve been my cheerleaders, they’ve been my confidantes, we talk in the winter while they’re home and make me jealous about the sunny weather, they’ve become my extended family.

Sweetland farm is one of friendship. There is too much to say about the kind of joy those guys bring to those lucky enough to know them. Dale is who I had the privilege of working with when I was there - he is a person who can actually turn a bad day into one filled with laughter. He’s one of the kindest people I’ve ever met; He’s hilarious, he’s a proud and dedicated father, he’s an amazing friend to those he values… he’s just the best. I haven’t had the privilege of working with the other guys who work there now, but I have luckily gotten to spend time getting to know them. The crew there has a special and inseparable friendship that any workplace would envy.

Come over to the orchard on Saturday for a fun market featuring local artists in the Upper Valley! 🪩 I’ve never hosted or organized something like this before and I’ve been putting a lot of time and heart into making this happen. I’m nervous and excited and still have so much to get done before Saturday!
