Yesterday's dreamy guided ride 🤩

A confidence building, empowering space gathering beginners and leaving friends.

Well done team ❤️👏🏼 by @lizkingtherapy

Oof the summer holidays. What a mixed bag.

People often keep going, chugging through these timeless days, waiting to get back to some normality.

It's not unusual for people to seek support once everything is back to 'normal'.

Whether it's that the trip to Greece with your other half that tipped you over the edge. Too much time together or too little.

Or the constant cycle of get up, entertain kids, fall into bed and repeat, has completely drained you and left you wondering who you even are.

Or its the fear of things going back to pre-summer-holiday normality. Work, commuting, routine etc.

It's ok to feel all these things (and more). Just know that people are available to listen and help you find a way through.

📢 Announcing the Fear of Heights course 📢

The brain child of Ben from Lakeland School of Mountaineering, co-designed with me! As a mountaineering instructor he came across many a person limited by their fears, so he wanted to do something about it.

Over two days we aim to help you move through your fears in a safe and supportive way; learning some theory, mixed with techniques and the opportunity to put it into practise, with choices that help you do what's right for you.

Together we bring experience from guiding, psychotherapy, coaching, and psychology, so you'll be in safe hands with us.

More info and to book, head to Ben's website.

It's great when you can bring your worlds together 🌎

My first bike guiding experience, after gaining the qualification just before getting injured, was well worth the wait.

8 riders joined me for a beginner friendly ride through Lakes Gravel Gang. With a range of experience, amongst the group, the nerves and apprehension were palpable. But that's ok, as with my therapy training I feel I have something to offer in this space.

With some nervous system calming techniques deployed, reminding people to breathe, and some gentle encouragement the smiles, whoops and laughter soon appeared. 20km later, we'd tackled some bumpy gravel, tourist dodging and some very warm hills.

A huge well done to the group that joined me, a real pleasure to ride alongside you. See you on a bike soon 🚴🏼‍♀️ by @lizkingtherapy

✨Workshops✨
I love running personal development workshops. Delivering them brings together my background in people development and facilitation with my therapy training. Which means you'll get...

👉🏼 a good sense of dynamics
👉🏼 encouraging empowerment
👉🏼 the right questions at the right time
👉🏼 and safe holding whilst tackling sensitive topics.

(Plus I'm a big fan of making topics interesting, interactive and dynamic).

Get in touch if you have a workshop that you'd like running or watch this space for some on the horizon 👀

I get it, it's hard to know what to look for when looking for a therapist.

You might be feeling anxious, depressed or scared and now you have to look for the right person to help.

I've created 7 steps to help narrow down your search in the hope it helps you find someone right for you.

📸 Do you like their photo? Do they feel like someone you could talk to and trust? It can be really interesting to see who you're drawn to, and who you're not, which could also be something to chat about in therapy.

💰 The price has to be right. Many private therapists offer reduced rates to certain demographics. However, you might also be able to ask for a lower rate if you need it.

🗓️ Are they available when you are? Sounds small but that's the type of thing that'll start to get annoying.

👥 How do you want to meet them? Are you fancying working online, in-person or walk and talk? Or maybe all of the above?

🎓 Do you mind what qualifications they have? Therapy isn't a regulated profession, so does them having a qualification help you recognise that they are regulated and must adhere to a set of ethical guidelines?

✨Do they give you a good feeling and help you feel in safe hands? If they don't, maybe ask yourself why.

💫 Most therapists offer free, or cheap, introductory calls or appointments to see how working together feels before making a commitment.

Scroll to the end of the post for my final tip.

Hoping this helps you or someone you know. Therapist and client fit is important, you deserve to find someone right for you.

Happy searching 💚 by @lizkingtherapy

📚 New Book Day! 📚

I've been waiting so patiently (👀) for the release of this book. When I finally got the message it was in stock yesterday, I did my best impression of a run over to @fredsbookshop to collect this beauty.

I'm a big fan of @_sarahwilson_ 's work, as well as Fred's bookshop. And I'm hearing a lot of fear in the therapy room about the world and the huge shifts that are upon us, or threaten us. I feel them too.

I'm hoping Sarah's book will help guide me, and therefore my clients, towards calmer waters. Sarah promises an 'invitation to reconnect with what matters to us and meet the future with courage, creativity and unprecedented care'. And I want a bit of that. Will report back.

Ps. What a treat to pop into a shop to buy this and absorb all the other book beauties on the shelves. Craving a more analogue life. by @lizkingtherapy

It's so interesting to look back and notice how past decisions have helped you get to the present day. 🌰🌱

Sometimes these work out for the best, and sometimes they're part of a story you might wish had never happened.

Here's what I did before I became a therapist. And probably what lit the spark that was already within me.

🌿 Working in outdoor adventure means managing people's fears of heights or water, offering appropriate challenges and supporting people's achievements.

🏕️ But it can also mean quiet conversations around campfires, navigating long-held trauma, hoping for trust from people who learnt distrust.

What brilliant roots for therapy work. by @lizkingtherapy

Fidget toys...what do you think?

Random bits of plastic or useful regulation toys?

Bringing these into my therapy room has been transformational for my practise.
👉🏼 To calm anxiety
👉🏼 To help regulate when sharing traumatic memories
👉🏼 For fidgety folk
👉🏼 To help demonstrate feelings and experiences

I'm looking forward to adding some more natural fidgets, like conkers and acorns, when they trees are ready to share 🌳 by @lizkingtherapy

It can take a lot to accept that you might need some support. The last thing you then need is to wait for it.

Here's what I would say to mates if they asked me how they would find therapists, but didn't want to sit at the end of a long waiting list.

Whatever you feel that you need support with, whether anxiety, depression, ADHD or ASD diagnoses or trauma support, there is a therapist out there who is just right for you.

Feel free to comment or email if you have any questions 🙏🏼 by @lizkingtherapy
