Update: we are moving the start of the class to November. I’m learning some folks were trying to sign up and we didn’t get the email . The class will start now on November 2nd. Our email is 1040creative@gmail.com. Please DM me here if you get no response, I just set the email I’m using recently and I’m not sure what is going on with it.
This class is taught by artist and 1040 Creative partner @Lizkrick and also by artist, Patrice Poor @poorpatrice

In this workshop Krick and Poor will combine their experiences with paper maché to teach students to create a unique mask that they design and build out of paper mache. Students will then paint their masks and adorn them with any objects or accessories they would like to add. Finally, we will learn how to coat our masks in a hard acrylic finish.

This class will run from 6:00pm - 8:30pm at 1040 Creative on Mondays beginning October 5th and concluding on October 26th.

In addition to the class, 1040 Creative will be hoisting its first annual Dia De Los Muertos party on 11/1 on 1040 Liberties walk. It will be a fun filled day of music, special events, make and take art projects and food. Participants in the mask making class will be invited to participate in a procession that will begin at 1040 Creative at sunset and progress around 1040 Liberties Walk.

1040 Creative is pleased to announce our very first Family Day to be held from 10am-3pm on Sunday, September 27th.

The event will begin with a newborn - size 6y clothing swap from 10am-12pm. We ask participants to bring gently used children’s clothing that has been washed, folded and sorted by size and ready to give away in exchange for new to you kids clothes. Participants are asked to come ready with items to swap starting at 9:30am. The event will go until 12pm and any clothing that is not picked up will be donated.

From 12pm-3pm our artists and innovators will be hosting free art activities that guests can participate in.

Artist Jennifer Anne Scott with her Dogs of Fishtown and Dogs of the Riverwards coloring books that focus on dogs in different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia. Scott will be at 1040 for Family Day to share free coloring pages from her highly rated coloring books with guests. She will also have copies of her coloring books available for sale. When your mommy wants to make popsicle stick creatures with you, but she’s an artist who has also done theater set fabrication and teaches a mommy & me class @1040creative. West Philly we need your help!

The Clark Arts and Music Festival also known as the Solstice and Equinox festival has been a part of the West Philly community for over 50 years. We are seeking old posters, video and photo from past events to showcase at an event hosted by Chris Perri to be held on September 20th at Pentridege station from 5-10pm. The event will be the WXSW Autumn Equinox Fest.

We also are seeking community members who have past experiences with the event to speak during the upcoming Equinox event. This is an effort to both preserve the history of this incredible festival and build its future together as a community. All are welcome to participate and bring ideas they have for the future of the festival.

Drawing, Drawing, Drawing!

Do you want to learn how to draw? Do you love to draw? Is drawing something you want to learn more about? If so, join us at 1040 Creative for Drawing, Drawing, Drawing! A 6 week class that will allow students of all skill levels to learn the basics or new techniques under the instruction of artist and educator, Liz Krick.

In this class we review basic drawing techniques and work on developing them further through a series of fun exercises that will help you draw what you see and maybe even what you dream.

The class will run from 7-9pm on Saturdays from (start date-end date). It will be held at 1040 Creative, located at 1040 N. 2nd st, suite 301.

I’m down @1040creative tonight getting things ready for the launch of our new newsletter that will be revealing some huge announcements for future programming for classes, events and calls for art at 1040 Creative

This is the last week for our current exhibition “Hold the Line” which features an incredible group of artists. Our next show will be an exhibition of work by @taylored_faces_ . There will be a soft opening on September 4th and an artist reception and opening on October 2nd. Details to follow.
