Police Officer’s Life Reportedly Threatened After Burglary at Home

A police officer attached to the IATF who resides at the Montgomery Circular, Union Hall area is reportedly fearing for his safety after his apartment was broken into and several items stolen.

According to information received, following the burglary, unknown individuals were allegedly seen attempting to gain access to the officer’s apartment on another occasion while also loitering outside the premises.
Residents in the area have reportedly told investigators that they observed suspicious individuals outside the officer’s residence and, on separate occasions, heard gunshots being fired in the vicinity of the apartment.

The incidents are being viewed as possible attempts to lure the officer out of his home to attack him.
The matter has reportedly been brought to the attention of the Commissioner of Police. by @lizwilliamsn

Minister Sobers says Rowley’s overseas travel cost taxpayers $32.5 million

Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Sean Sobers says between 2015 and 2025, overseas travel by former prime minister Dr Keith Rowley cost taxpayers $32.5 million.

He said since the UNC took office, he has had to account for all his foreign travel.

“For the ten years that the former, former prime minister was in office, his overseas travel amounted to a whopping $32,525,134.16,” Sobers said.

He questioned whether taxpayers had seen value for money on those trips, saying no technocrats or public servants were present during multiple trips to advance the country’s interests.

Sobers said when the UNC-led Government came into office, it had to repair relationships damaged by the PNM administration.

“As a comrade of mine would say in Guyana, ‘carelessly dancing through the raindrops’, Mr Speaker, that is what was going on on the other side and now when we got into administration with a clear, correct, affirmative position by the member of Siparia, mandates have been given to all of us on this side to correct those mistakes, deliberate mistakes, deliberate bad performance made by all of the other members on that side,” Sobers said.

Imbert say T&T poised to crash within months:

If this country has not already crashed, it is poised to do so in the coming month.

So said Opposition Member of Parliament and former finance minister Colm Imbert yesterday during the budget debate in Parliament.

Imbert said he cannot support the 2026-2027 national budget as presented by current Minister Davendranath Tancoo last week, repeating the Opposition Leader’s claim that the country is currently in recession.

He at several times referred to the budget figures as a “mirage”, “fictitious” and “nonsense”.

Imbert said Tancoo had ignored the reality faced by citizens, where some were suffering and starving, “they have no money, businesses are crashing, the economy is in a recession. That is the reality. That is what the Minister of Finance avoided and, as a result, I cannot support this empty budget because it is not forward looking, there are no incentives for business and this country, if it has not already crashed, will crash within the next couple of months”.

Division of Education launches investigation into mother beating her child at the Signal Hill Secondary School :

The Division of Education has opened an investigation into a viral video showing a parent beating her child on the Signal Hill Secondary School compound on Thursday.

The 40-second video shows a female security officer accusing the female student, who was accompanied by her mother, of accosting her.

"How much times yuh run up on me, little girl?" the security guard asked.

As the student denied the accusation, her mother began striking her multiple times with a slipper. The footwear eventually flew out the woman's hand as students looked on.

Signal Hill Secondary is one of two schools on the island with a permanent police presence.

Secretary of Education Orlando Kerr declined to comment on the issue yesterday.

"I am awaiting the facts of the matter," he said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a teacher at the school said the incident has left staff shocked. She added that physical disciplining of students on the compound is not a normal occurrence.

But a parent, waiting outside the school yesterday to pick up his son, said he supported the mother's actions.

He noted society usually blames the parents when children behave badly.

"I ain't see nothing wrong with that. Nowadays kids need that level of discipline," he said.

"'It start from the home — that is what people go be saying...If you ain't put down your foot in that kind of way, you go be the one at fault at the end of the day, because they go be doing whatever they want."

PNM'S KELVON MORRIS CALLS OUT THE UNC AND TPP FOR TAKING CREDIT FOR THE NEW TOBAGO AIRPORT TERMINAL

DR ROWLEY AND THE PNM DESERVE THE CREDIT, SAYS MORRIS

Former Minority Leader KELVON MORRIS took to social media to have his say:

The construction of that airport was no easy feat. Dr. Rowley and the PNM faced serious opposition, with the UNC arguing that $1.1 billion was too much to spend on Tobago, while Farley and the TPP mobilized residents to obstruct the project. What bothers me is seeing those who opposed or obstructed the project now trying to rewrite history and take credit for something they once fought against. Many of us, including Mrs. Cudjoe, Ayanna Webster-Roy and others, paid a political price for standing behind that project. So I believe Dr. Rowley and the PNM deserve the credit for seeing it through, and that history should never be rewritten to suit the politics of the day. by @lizwilliamsn

124 SWRHA workers sent home:

A total of 124 daily-paid workers at the South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) have been sent home, with the National Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW) calling on the authority’s management to explain the decision and address concerns about the affected employees’ outstanding overtime payments.

NUGFW Southern Division Executive president Jason Gordon said the workers reported for duty yesterday but were informed that their services were no longer required.

Gordon said the workers received correspondence from the SWRHA’s Human Resources Department advising them that their temporary casual employment would end on October 16.

He said the union was not consulted before the decision was communicated to the workers and was seeking answers from the authority about the circumstances surrounding the termination of their employment.

“We have 124 workers right now out of a job, out of a bread, and they have absolutely no one to reach out to in terms of management,” Gordon said.

He said the union was making representations on the workers’ behalf and was appealing to the relevant authorities, including the Health Minister, to clarify what had prompted the decision.
