This moment marks the end of a journey I started 4 years ago at @sandiegostateuniversity . Throughout my time as an undergrad, I’ve pushed myself to venture outside my comfort zone and do things I never thought would be possible. Coming out the other end, I’ve collected a few degrees, relationships and moments that have tweaked and will forever inspire me, and zeal for life and learning that’s been multiplied by a million. Last week I officially graduated Magna Cum Laude holding a B.A. in Psychology with minor in Counseling and Social Change, as well as a B.S. in Television, Film, and New Media with an emphasis in production. The reaction I got when I told people what I studied was always “well… those two things don’t really go together,” but I think it’s an understatement to say that studying the intersection of media in the west with social change and cultural competence couldn’t be more interesting, relevant, and vital– especially right now. As society becomes increasingly fueled by circulation of media messages, and exhausted from obeying expectations created for monetization, the water in which we swim can feel less and less visible. I’ve learned to question the norm, to interrogate “authority,” and to ask what within us prevents change.I couldn’t have done this without my family, friends, teammates, and colleagues who have shown me what it means to live with confidence, compassion, buoyancy, honesty, and courage. I cannot wait to revisit school to get my masters in marriage and family therapy, but for now, I’m excited to keep challenging my perspective as I explore new cultures and environments. #stopai #fuckice and #getyourfeetdirty by @lizzatron
