My first audition with Fred he told me that he thought I “didn’t know who I was as a woman.” At that time, I was offended, shocked, and told this story with an indignant tone. 10+ish years later, I can tell you with my full chest, he was right. And that is what I loved about Fred. Fred saw artists fully, their potential, their passion, their heart, and cultivated a space for those things to flourish. He gave people first, second, and third chances. He never gave up on someone he believed in and he never let an actor settle for comfortable or safe.

Gruff, stubborn, and full of stories that would make your eyes go wide, I love that man. I will miss walking down Howard St and hearing him call out “Liz!” from the bench and sitting with him while he smoked a cigarette and hearing his opinion on what they were working on, whatever was grinding his gears that day, or some gossip he was so excited to share with someone he could trust. I felt so lucky to be that person.

Fred saw me fully, even when I had no idea who I was myself. Fred was the closest thing I’ve had to feeling like I had a champion in this community. He meant so much to me and I am devastated he is gone. Theo has given me so much, I am so grateful. It won’t be the same without Fred on his perch in the corner.

Rest well to this beautiful, sweet, complicated man. Say hi to Matt and PJ. I hope yall are planning something epic over there. @theoubiquecabaret @fredanzevino by @lizzzb
