South America, that’s a wrap! Superchunk shows here were something else let me tell you. It’s very exciting to play for a crowd that is so full of life, ready to party, sings out loud, and grins ear to ear the entire time. Thanks to everyone on the team that helped us get from point A to B and to all the spectacular disco shops…we went to so many. Also, much love to @matthewbarnhart @rubyreadsagain @balaclavarecords @fatiado_discos @victorebrenz @nickasferreira

For more than two decades, Laura King has been one of the most in-demand drummers in North Carolina.

You can learn a lot about the evolution of indie rock in the Triangle just by tracing her career. Drumming brought her to North Carolina in 1999, and since then, she has played a major role in local underground scenes ranging from alt-country to punk. In 2023 she landed her biggest gig yet as the new drummer for North Carolina indie rock titans Superchunk after long-time drummer Jon Wurster left the group. These days she is also one quarter of the genre-defying noise project Speed Stick.

WUNC music reporter Brian Burns recently caught up with King to talk about her career and how the music scene has evolved since she got here.

The exhibition is on view through October 4th so make sure to check it out if you missed the reception. The remaining available works can be found on our online shop. ✨
