And with the end of this journey, the rest of our lives begins. We can’t thank everyone enough — truly.

Two years ago, I had this brown leather journal—L.L.S engraved at the bottom, a sticker slapped on the front: Frederick Douglass High, California. Free loot from the art department, left for dead on the Darby and the Dead set.

The final entry, scribbled onto its worn pages, read:

“13/09/23

It’s spring,
and the house is empty,
all the memories of the past
tangled in the couch,
that offensive green painting that hung in the living room,
the toaster, the kettle,
and the silverware that cluttered the drawers,
are gone—along with him.
It’s spring,
and the city awakens,
cars ripple through their concrete streams,
kids wait for the bells to ring,
and the trees that once stood bare now shelter the birds who left home,
they’re returning home.

I jog now, didn’t you hear?
I move through the winding streets,
ascending with my lightning feet,
Kloof, Upper Kloof, Oranjezicht,
I can’t breathe—
so I sit.
And then, I do.
I wait.
I feel.
I can feel.
The world exhales because —

It’s spring,
and my canvas is blank.
My canvas is mine,
and it’s so fucking divine.”

Forever grateful to Winford fucking Collings—whose praise I’ll sing across JHB these coming weeks—and to the team who burned their love and souls into every frame. From stolen horse shots to rooms built with immense detail, from gravity-defying performances and to @allydebeer , who indulged our bratty ambition. To our tech fathers, kind and gentle with us. To our production team, who ran that fucking ship and spun gold out of R2. To the catering mothers, who gave us a place to pause and rest. And to Grey Kotze—patient, ambitious, and with a love of cinema so deep, he saw our world and got us there.

Closing my tattered brown journal, I’m feeling Lucky* and ready to begin. And like I told Lisa on the phone last —

Born from a phone call with @lungilelallie, ‘Trying Not to Kill Myself’ is our raw, experimental, iPhone-shot dive into modern existence, soon to be exhibited at the RAW Film Festival.

Pulsing with angst and set to soaring, off-kilter strings, our film follows a man trapped in life’s relentless rat race, desperately struggling to stay afloat. As he seeks escape through vices, we expose the hidden human cost of his choices, while we, the filmmakers confront ourselves of the moral complexities of survival in modern society. taken in Cape Town, Western Cape by @llspeelman

Through our film Adam, we present a contemporary piece examining destructive ideals of masculinity as a gilded cage—how it can entrap one through its practices, traditions, and violence. We wanted to delve into this notion and share a story witnessing the becoming of a young boy, Adam, in a world of blood and land. And we had a fucking ball doing so.

So to quickly sum up the last nine months of our lives in four words: WE MADE A FILM!
