Diagnosis: Basal cell carcinoma. It’s been there a while, approximately 15 years and I figured it was time. I was one of those (in my 20’s) who would lay out with my baby oil slathered all over in the hopes that I would tan. All I ever got from that was a terrible sun burn, that would hurt for days and then the peeling process started. I hated peeling. I would try to keep my skin moisturized as much as I could, however I just ended up with the same peeling skin all over. A few years latter I noticed this tiny little bump under my left eye. I thought it can’t be! I have been wearing sunscreen whenever I’m going to be out in the sun, at the beach or at a pool. However, what I did not remember to do was wear sunscreen when driving. The basal cell being on my left side and I had 2 spots of squamous cells on my forehead (left side) ( they were treated), I realized that the sun was burning me on the left side only. Hence, it was time to get it done. Now I did not think it would be that big, however, after the first cut, they checked the margins, and there were a few more cells that had to be removed. Also, when the Dr. stitched it, she had to make the incision a little bigger because the skin starts to pucker with each stitch. She said it should be fine and heal well. The stitches come out in one week. I can’t wait to see how black and blue my eye will turn. Please always wear your sunscreen, a hat and glasses to protect your retinas. by @lmartinezrn

37 years of marriage + 6 years of loving you. It’s been a roller coaster of ups and downs, but together we have stayed the course. We have built a legacy of 6 children and 10 grandchildren. We are celebrating one of our grandson’s graduation from high school tonight and our youngest granddaughter will be one year old tomorrow. This AI Met Gala is wanting me to check out as many gowns as I please. Well 2 is enough. I would definitely pick the green gown. Possibly for next year’s Met Gala depending on the theme. This year my invite got lost in the mail. 🤣🤣 by @lmartinezrn

“HAPPY NURSES WEEK!” I raise my glass 🥂to every single nurse that I have met and worked with over the span of my 17 year career as a nurse. I learned so much from each and every one of you. Being a nurse let me be the caretaker that I always enjoyed doing. I got to give back to society, to strangers I had never met, listen to stories of every patient I had cared for, to give comfort to, to pray with when asked and to hold their hand to the ones with no family. All of these memories are engraved in my mind. I know for me personally I feel, “Once a nurse, always a nurse.” I’m always looking around to help anyone who needs help. Being of service is what us nurses do and we do it well. We work hard, really hard and many times our families get what is left of a tired wife, mom/dad after we have come home from a long day/night. While we work, we give 110% and what we take home to our families is usually less than 50%. Being a nurse was and will always be a rewarding career choice. I was able to do inpatient care,LTC, Home Health, wound care, Hospice and case management. I was also able to go on and get my MSN in education and teach at Grand Canyon University, Scottsdale Community College and Brookline College. Teaching was the most passionate part of my career. I loved it. I felt and still feel that education is highly important and that my duty as a nurse will forever be to educate. Again, I wish all of you wonderful nurses a happy nurses week 5/6-5/12. Hanging out in Mission Beach for the weekend. Quite a different beach from our Rocky Point, MX beach. Both beautiful, tranquil and exquisite. I was never really a beach person in my younger days. However, as I’ve grown older, it is the peacefulness and the sound of the water that brings calmness to my being.
