Always hard to choose favourites.

For me, 2023 was an amazing year of learning and opportunity.

Two weeks into 2024 and one month into my new video producer job, it’s about time to finally share my favourite shots of the year.

For some events, I really couldn’t find “favourite” photos, so I have decided to share snippets that have not been posted before.

Mind you, these are just photos. Enjoy!

Thrilled to share that I'm teaching a video workshop at Carleton University's School of Journalism and Communication for students in the fourth year of their undergraduate degree and at the master's level.

It's all about video in 2026, so you betcha we'll be diving into vertical videos, TikTok and YouTube.

We'll tackle a range of things including:
- How to think about what actually makes a strong video
- Writing for video (specifically short verticals)
- Gathering and filming (phones allowed!)
- Editing (key framing, sound, sequencing)
- Animating and polishing, explainer-style (After Effects 101)

This is a hands-on workshop, so rather than a lot of lectures, students are going to actually work on a video from beginning to end.

Big thank you to the school for inviting me to do this! taken in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada by @lmbaechlin

Can you guess where I went for two weeks earlier this month? I’ll give you a tip: at least 4 different countries.

Here are some of the images I came away with, all of which are going into my coffee table book. It’s been (nearly) a year of work, and who knows when I’ll actually complete it.

Anyway, it was lovely to visit London for the first time, and return to Paris.

*Oops, I technically already posted some of these earlier, but decided to update this to include additional images…

Asthma attacks and emergency room visits today. Cancer, heart conditions and other possible issues in years to come. Every year, health issues related to wildfires cost Canada about $24 billion.

Excited to share The Narwhal's latest video featuring Carl Meyer. This is our second wildfire video in one week — our newsroom is working hard to meet the moment.

My thoughts go out to everyone dealing with health issues as a result of the wildfires raging all across the country.

I guess you could argue that this video is the unofficial continuation of our Who Pays series. Get ready for some charts and big numbers, because climate change is costing us a lot. by @lmbaechlin

2025 wrapped — mostly phone pictures edition

Busy year. Lots of travel (20+ cities). New friends. 1mill+ views across projects. New experiences. Pleasant and unpleasant flights. New skills. Many hours sitting. Water damage. New doubts, new successes, new challenges. New glasses. Good food. Spa days. Read more books. Lots of plants. Too much coffee. by @lmbaechlin

Some stills from a video I produced and filmed, animated, etc. recently after a trip out to B.C. -- We just published it as part of a written story by Shannon Waters at The Narwhal.

I think this video is yet another example of how we can channel new tech & some creativity to enhance our journalism and meet the audience where they're at. It doesn't need to be boring.

Check out the story on the website, and also across our social media accounts (for the video). by @lmbaechlin

Make sure to check out my latest video explainer at The Narwhal with Carl Meyer and Drew Anderson.

“Pipelines in Canada, explained."

This was a long time coming, and I'm super excited that it's finally out in the world.

Did you know that Canada has enough pipelines (right now) to stretch to the moon and back? Yeah. Well, I mapped every. single. one. for you. by @lmbaechlin
