💙 This November, a big part of our programme is dedicated to and celebrating artists living and working in Helsinki—and how thrilled we are to already open the curtain a little, announcing the names of these wonderful artists.

During November 5–15, we present creations by:

Alen Nsambu
Antonia Atarah
Chen Nadler
Giorgia Lolli
Iiris Laakso
Jenni-Elina von Bagh
Johanna Karlberg
Kadence Neill
Matilda Aaltonen
Mikko Niemistö
Milla Koistinen
Sara Grotenfelt
Veli Lehtovaara

The works of these artists—and the whole programme—will be launched September 16th. So it's a good idea to stay tuned🌀

"These works will be interwoven with performances by artists from abroad, blurring and questioning the boundaries between the local and the international. What do these categories mean today?"

In the meanwhile you can read the text "A Peek Behind the Curtain" on our website. Link in bio ;)

⛅️Moving in November has received the Spearhead Grant (Kärkihankeapuraha) from Finnish Cultural Foundation! Yesterday our Artistic Director Kerstin Schroth and Managing Director Isabel González took part in the Uusimaa Regional Fund annual celebration to receive the grant.

The grant is aimed at boosting the visibility of local contemporary dance and fostering international exchange during this year’s festival, taking place from 5 to 15 November.

Thank you @kulttuurirahasto for supporting our work! 🎉

As this year marks our 40th anniversary, Moving in November is the oldest and most significant contemporary dance festival in the Helsinki area, known for its international and ambitious curation, and openness to experimentation. Since 2020 Artistic Director Kerstin Schroth and Managing Director Isabel González have been developing the festival’s international networks and ways of supporting the local scene.

"Whose Battle Are We Fighting? Moving in November in the Face of Funding Cuts" ❗️ A new text on our webpage, written in response to the funding cuts Moving in November is facing.

While we are preparing this year's festival, the Finnish state's decision to cut Moving in November's funding creates an ever greater insecurity about the future – reflecting a deeper structural failure.

"How can a state that recognizes the importance of art and culture fail to sustain a festival like Moving in November and not look actively after and support the structural stability of a healthy ecosystem of cultural organizations that coexist, nourish and complement one another with different roles, approaches, and responsibilities, that are ultimately in service of a diverse modern, contemporary society with very different needs and tastes?"

✨ In the frame of the EU project Life Long Burning and it’s programme Capacity Grid, Moving in November sends Helsinki-based choreographer and researcher Lydia Touliatou to Berlin for “Tour Through Tanztage”, a peer to peer event which takes place during Tanztage Berlin.
Together with local artists Lydia gets the chance to browse through the festival. ✨

✨Moving in November 2025 impression & feedback ✨ Part 2

You described the programme as a wide spectrum of expressions - where choreography can take place.

Performances were political, playful and precise —
moments where bodies, sound and space shifted attention.
From intensity to stillness,
from shared rhythm and energy to intimate encounters.

Moving in November became a place to slow down and be together.

Discussions and gatherings like this were described as rare —
and therefore precious —
and the way it is all curated felt radical.

You told us that the aftertaste and feeling were:
patience, care, risk, warmth, and community.

🌀 Thank you for the shared time and adventure. ❤
