POSTS STORIES REELS

Jennifer Holliday @mgmmusichall There’s a beautiful, bigger and unexpected story leading to this moment… I’ll share it soon.

Having the opportunity to play with and for the legendary Jennifer Holliday was truly a blessing. What made it even more special was how gracious, warm, and genuinely funny she was with me. We shared some laughs and moments during rehearsal the day before that I won’t soon forget.

But what touched me most was that she specifically wanted to hear me play and she expressed that she wanted to give me more time in this moment. ❤️

As I played my final note, she pointed to me and announced my name to the audience: “L. Michelle!” That moment was revealing, exciting, and healing ❤️‍🩹 . It meant more to me than I can fully express.

As a saxophonist, I’ve learned that every moment doesn’t call for a thousand riffs and runs. Sometimes it’s not about how many notes you play, but what you put into the ones you choose. The heart, the intention, and the space you leave can say just as much.

And this was one of those moments. I’m grateful.

Some experiences stay with you long after the music stops. This is one of them. 💜🎷#jenniferholliday #dreamgirl #dreamgirls #jenniferhudson #saxophone thank you @v.i.creationstudio for the capture by @lmichellemccray

“MICHAEL” MOVIE Vocal Coach Stephanie Spruill We had PHENOMENAL time…Talk about timing… just DAYS after MICHAEL hit theaters, I had the opportunity to sit down for a conversation with the incredible Stephanie Spruill.

And for me, the best part wasn’t simply talking about a major movie. It was getting to hear the stories behind it from someone who actually helped shape what we heard.

Stephanie served as a vocal coach on MICHAEL, working with Jaafar Jackson—Michael Jackson’s nephew, who portrays Michael—and Juliano Krue Valdi, who portrays young Michael.

But her connection to Michael’s music goes back much further than this film. She worked with Michael Jackson himself, so our conversation gave us a chance to talk not only about the work behind MICHAEL, but about the experience, musicianship and history she brings to it.

And then the conversation took a turn I appreciated—Stephanie shared a few words about me and my work as a vocal coach. ❤️

There’s a different kind of meaning when recognition comes from another professional who understands the craft, the ear, the responsibility and the years of work behind what we do. Stephanie, I appreciate your gracefulness acknowledging that in me. I receive it with both gratitude and confidence in the work I’ve built.

What you’re seeing here is just a piece of a much larger conversation.

🎥 The full interview is coming soon to my YouTube channel, where Stephanie and I talk about MICHAEL, working with Jaafar and Juliano, her experiences with Michael Jackson, her career, and the stories behind a life in music.

These are the conversations I love—two people who understand the work sitting down and talking about the journey behind it. 🎙️❤️ Her resume speaks for itself!

“JEZEBEL” moments….There’s something about stepping into the world of Sade… it’s smooth, it’s intentional, it’s sexy… where saxophone gets to be a part of the conversation.

Being part of @puresoulpresents at Tribute here in @citywinerybos in Boston had me in a zone of good feelings and great vibes. I really just leaned into that simply letting the phrasing breathe the way her music does.

These moments are from “Jezebel,” which quietly became one of my favorites of the night (right up there with “Smooth Operator”). And blending in on background vocals for some of the other classics? Yeah… that part felt was fun for sure!

The band, the audience (of which I didn’t know anyone) had THE best energy… it all just clicked. I had such a beautiful time, and honestly… I’d do it again in a heartbeat—whatever the next tribute may be.
Here are some crowd captures… Which are my favorite!
