A milestone in the global movement to integrate the arts in clinical care and public health 🙌🙌

Last week, we launched The Jameel Arts & Health Lab - Lancet Global Collection on the Arts & Health — bringing together decades of evidence and a roadmap for advancing research, practice, and policy.

Developed by the Jameel Arts & Health Lab in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the Collection examines evidence from around the world showing how participation in the arts and creative arts therapies can contribute across the continuum of health: from promoting wellbeing and preventing ill health to supporting treatment, care, and recovery.

But evidence alone is not enough.

The Collection asks what it will take to move from evidence to action: embedding the arts more systematically within health systems, communities, education, and public policy; strengthening the workforce and infrastructure needed to deliver this work; and ensuring that access to the health benefits of the arts is equitable.

We launched the Collection at NYU Skirball during UNGA Healing Arts Week with artists, researchers, health leaders, policymakers, and practitioners, including a remarkable performance and conversation with @jonbatiste exploring his vision of “Social Music” and the capacity of music to connect, heal, and bring people together.

Thank you to our speakers for their thoughtful remarks and insights including Georgina Dopico (NYU Provost), Sarah Calderon (Senior Advisor for Cultural Life, Dept. Economic Justice NYC), Dr AZA Allsop (Yale), Dr Joanne Loewy (Mt. Sinai), Dr Nisha Sajnani (NYU Steinhardt), Stephen Stapleton (Culturunners) Alana Jackson (spoken word artist), Miriam Sabin (The Lancet), Uzma Sulaiman (Community Jameel), Dr Daisy Fancourt (UCL/UNESCO), Dr Jill Sonke (Stanford), Dr Agustin Ibáñez, (UAI, GBHI), Dr Nikos Stefanis (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and Dr Nils Fietje (WHO Regional Office for Europe).

This event was part of UNGA Healing Arts Week 2026, which took place September 19-16, alongside the UN General Assembly.

UNGA Healing Arts Week kicked off with some exciting events including Return of the Buffalo and Creative Aging at @lincolncenter and @juilliardschool!

We have events all week long, head to the link in bio to sign up and be part of the largest arts and health festival in the United States. 🙌🎨🎭

Return of the Buffalo featured 40 life-size buffalo puppets gathered in New York City, they roamed, grazed, and ran wild through downtown Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan, encountering live music, poetry, ceremonies, and performances along the way. Inspired by the buffalo’s extraordinary return—from near extinction to repopulation, it was created by Amir Nizar Zuabi in partnership with Elders from Lenape and Lakota Tribes.

At Lincoln Center, Creative Aging: From Inspiration to Implementation kicked off at Lincoln Center with a screening of Oscar nominated documentary VIVA VERDI! and conversation exploring the transformative role of artistic engagement in promoting health, connection, and wellbeing throughout life. The event continued at Julliard with a series of hands-on workshops with faculty from leading creative aging programs that foster vitality, purpose, and belonging.

Thank you to event producers Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Juilliard Extension, @lifetime_arts, @singforhope, and Dance for PD.

As we head into the new school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate all of our coaches across the country and the impact they make in their communities every day.

Our parks create the space, but it’s our coaches who bring them to life, building relationships, creating belonging, and helping young people grow on and off the field.

At M.S. 137 in Queens, that work now has a new home. Thank you to the @lmtischfund for working alongside us to create a space where coaches can continue making moments like these possible for the next generation.

Here’s to our coaches, our players, and another year of goals beginning. ⚽️ by @lmtischfund

Two years ago, #GothamFC launched Keep Her in the Game with one belief: Girls don’t drop out of sports in isolation, they drop out of environments. That’s why we’re changing the environment around girls - giving coaches the training to lead with empathy, providing caregivers with tools to support their daughters, and creating spaces for girls to experience joy, inspiration, and connection that helps them fall even more in love with the game.

Over the past two years, we’ve reached over 4k girls and over 200 coaches, and this fall we’re welcoming our largest class of KHITG yet.

Every girl deserves to experience sport as a place where she belongs. Thank you to @Dove, @lmtischfund, @girlsleadership, @charteroakimpact, our participating clubs, coaches, caregivers, and every girl helping change the game.

A little over halfway through the season, Elevate Play, pres. by @BankofAmerica, is already creating unforgettable firsts. Swipe to see what we’ve accomplished together so far! ✨

For many young people, attending a @GothamFC match through Elevate Play wasn’t just a fun day out, it was their first professional sporting event. Their first women’s professional game. Their first chance to experience what it feels like to belong in a stadium full of fans cheering together.

Everyone remembers their first game. When we remove barriers like cost and transportation, we create opportunities for young people to see what’s possible: for themselves, for their communities, and for the future of women’s sports.

That’s why Elevate Play goes beyond game day.

Together with founding philanthropic partner, @lmtischfund, and program partner @playworksnynj, schools and community organizations are also receiving research-backed training that helps create more opportunities for safe, active, and inclusive play all year long.

We’re grateful to @bankofamerica and @lmtischfund for helping make this work possible, and @charteroakimpact for supporting program design and implementation. taken in New York / New Jersey Region by @lmtischfund

⚽️ Where goals begin in Queens.

Earlier this month, alongside the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund, we officially opened the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund Street Soccer Park in Ozone Park.

This park is more than a field. It’s a space where nearly 2,000 students can play, learn, and connect through the game they love.

As the recent State of Soccer report found, too many young people in New York City still face barriers to the game due to cost and a lack of safe, accessible places to play. In neighborhoods across Queens, demand for soccer far exceeds the availability of quality spaces. This park is part of the solution, creating a place where every child has the opportunity to belong, build confidence, and thrive through sport.

Thank you to the @lmtischfund , M.S. 137, @gothamfc , @uniqlousa , and @nycschools for helping make this vision possible.

Because when we invest in places to play, we invest in young people, communities, and futures.
