Happy tears tonight. 🤍

My heart and mind have been so heavy with grief lately, but tonight I just had to stop and look at how blessed I was. Look how incredibly lucky I was to have you, Ashley.

Like this night — camped out on the side of a lake, just us, our ponchos, the car and the water. Dance parties before bed, and dance parties the second we woke up. We turned everything into a moment worth dancing through.

There’s a strange kind of ache in losing someone who was supposed to be standing next to me at my wedding. So many moments ahead that you were meant to be part of. But tonight I don’t want to sit in what we won’t get to do — I want to remember everything we did. The laughing. The dancing. The way we lived. We packed so much happiness into our friendship, and those memories will last me a lifetime. You’re forever in my heart, Ash. Ashley. My sister. The sweetest, kindest soul I have ever known.

She was so special — one of a kind, the kind of person you only meet once in a lifetime. She brought out a version of me that only she will ever really know, and I will carry that gift with me always.

We made so many beautiful memories together. Hikes, sound baths and yoga. The road trip to Colorado to pickup her Subaru, and getting pulled over in Utah for going too slow in the fast lane, even though we were going 75mph 😂 Sleeping in the car under the stars instead of getting a hotel. Cinnaholic cinnamon rolls. Camping at Kern River, the hot springs and the natural water slides. Dancing our hearts out at Splash House, Big Bear for my birthday and again on the 4th of July. Staying up all night to finish a 1,000-piece puzzle in a single day. So much laughter. So much love. So much her. I take solace knowing you were where you loved to be — out in the wild beauty of Costa Rica, in the nature that always lit you up.
I love you more than words could ever hold, Ash. You are my sister, and you always will be. I will keep every one of these memories close until I see you again. 🤍 The voice you hear-this is the last voice memo she sent me. Today we said goodbye to my Auntie Coco, my godmother, my mom’s best friend since they were young girls, and one of the most loving and kind-hearted people I have ever known.

For years she fought cancer with incredible strength, courage, and grace. Through it all, she never lost her warmth or her ability to make everyone around her feel loved.

Two days ago, I was given the greatest gift: the chance to say goodbye.

I sat beside her holding her hand and reading entries from my journal that I had written about her when I was 7 years old. Tucked into those pages was a dragonfly she had drawn for me all those years ago.

Before I had arrived at the hospital, my Mom said She had been unresponsive for days. My mom said, “Coco, Lauren is here. If you can hear her, squeeze her hand.”

She woke up, squeezed my hand so tightly, pulled it to her chest, and held me.
We asked if she had heard the stories I read to her, and she nodded her head yes.

At one point, she motioned for a pen and paper. We gave them to her, and she tried so hard to write or draw something. She was too weak to get the words or picture onto the page, but what remained looked like a tiny smiley face. None of us can know exactly what she intended to write or draw, but I feel she may have been trying to leave me one last little piece of herself. And the fact that all that remained on the page was something that looked like a smiley face is honestly beautiful in its own way.

I will forever cherish that moment and the gift of knowing she heard me, knew I was there, and was able to tell me she loved me one last time.

Thank you for your endless kindness, and for the beautiful mark you left on my life. I will miss you more than words can express, but I will carry your love with me always.
